My Apology
What’s up yard?! I know I’ve been gone for about two weeks but my last blog and radio interview sparked a little controversy so I wanted to come on here and quelch it! My last blog about some of Stephon Marbury’s actions, combined with a radio interview that I did, have been misinterpreted by some as speaking out against homosexuality. I’ve received some comments and so have the Wizards about it. I just wanted to take a time out and let you know that no disrespect was intended. I was just trying to have fun with a crazy situation. I don’t support or condemn homosexuality and I believe in everyone making choices for themselves. If it doesn’t affect me, I don’t really care. I hope no one was offended because I wasn’t trying to come off like Tim Hardaway.
Alright Yard, just had to get that off my chest. Stay tuned because my next blog is actually going to be a vlog showing my preparation and what I’m doing workout wise to get ready for the upcoming season.
I’m gone!
B-Wood

It would probably be educational for everyone, not just yourself, if you participated in such a discussion.
speedwell replied August 18, 2009
when you say 'oh steph, i'm not gonna change in the locker room after you danced to barbie girl' or 'you need to be in one of those atlanta or sf bars dancing', i would probably characterize that as a blatantly homophobic statement.
are people overly sensitive in 2009? maybe. but it's probably akin to you preferring not to be referred to as the "N" word. i would normally type it out because i'm using the word as an example in a discussion, but obviously people would get too worked up about it.

And Brendan: Unfortunately it appears that even light-hearted commentary can result in being (falsely) labeled as homophobic. Such is the world. I hope it doesn't discourage your blogging. Looking forward to the workout vid.

Anyway, I'll gladly forgive you if you sign a big extension at a bargain rate that gives the team flexibility to keep adding quality pieces. Love to see you in a Wizards uniform until you're Dikembe's age.

brendan i don't think what you wrote merited being called hate speech, it seems you just didn't think your words through when trying to infuse humor into a post about stephon. you've realized the error in it, and i'm glad you addressed it promptly.
adtjones replied August 23, 2009
All right, I'm a little drunk and I'm trying to bait you into saying something controversial about a former teammate. I'll go now.

It is not often you find an athlete who is willing to go out on a limb and talk about the issues that are on people's minds. Even the one's that people are afraid to touch at the risk of being 'politically incorrect'.
Although I am in the camp that the remarks were hurtful, who am I to tell you what you can say or not say.
I hope this doesn't deter you from talking about other sports related issues.
Other athletes keep mum because they are worried about losing sponsors.
razah12 replied August 18, 2009
I know it offended some friends of mine.
I thought I was actually giving you a positive and encouraging response.
Now you are going to pull the race card on me?
I get called a guinea every day... LOL
razah12 replied August 18, 2009
I guess I got caught up in sticking up for fellow Yard Barkers. I was not fully informed on the situation, but then I saw your apology on the front page!
I can't find it, but there is a hilarious scene in "Back to School" with Rodney Dangerfield where they ask Rodney why he doesn't change in the locker room.
He responds:
"I don't change in front of guys. Next thing you know, you're showering with the fellas. And the next thing you know...you're pinned to a sophomore
named Chip."
It made me laugh my ars off.
I should not have gotten involved without knowing all the details.
razah12 replied August 18, 2009
... now I am sure my comments will deflect some of the shrapenal you are getting hit with
razah12 replied August 18, 2009
Now I am sorry I even got involved...
The days of Archie Bunker are gone I guess...
If anyone is reading this, I support B-Hay's freedom of speech.
Oh yeah, if Starbury is reading this, thanks for nothing by joining the Celtics.
Ouch!
razah12 replied August 18, 2009
Brendan did nothing wrong!
It is a shame that he had to post this 'apology'.
Marbury should be the one apologizing for being a p iss poor role model.

The original youtube clip in your blog has updated the description for the handful of people who didn't realize it was fake. Maybe etan thomas knocked some brain cells out of you, but here's the new description for the youtube clip.
"Steph seems like he really headed for the hills
For the Record. For anyone who didn't realize he wasn't dancing to this, he wasn't dancing to this "
Now you say the clip is fake, and that steph is not really dancing to the barbie girl song but I really dont give a damn if he was dancing to lil wayne and jay-z he need to sit down somewhere and get his life right because he looks like a dancing fool! I hope that comment wasn"t offensive to fools everywhere!
Last but not least u made a comment about etan thomas, maybe you should do your research because people on our team know what went down! lol! the champ is here!

I don't know if anyone close to you has died before, but I guess if they have and you started crying after talking about it and your brother started rubbing your shoulders, you would have no problem with me saying that's equal to gay porn right? And if you do have a problem with me saying that, I can say that you're just being too sensitive right?

Brendan, fu*k these people man. Stop explaining yourself. Thats the problem with this goddamned country now.
Hey everyone, I don't "support" homosexual behavior either (well, 2 dudes anyway...lol). Get over it. I also don't like mondays, Ben Affleck, hard shell tacos or the Dallas Cowboys. So the fu*k what. The same way we shouldn't care who humps who, we shouldn't care what Brendan Haywood thinks about it. Leave him alone already.....
The end.

He didn't "support" racism, wasn't a member of the KKK, and probably thought it was just a harmless joke when he speculated that I had to be a n-lover to accept the dormitory situation. I ended up walking out on his racist ass and only saw him one other time in the next 20 years before he committed suicide.
I hope things work out differently for you.

There is a problem when you assume a strange acting male getting his shoulders rubbed without a shirt on is gay. you can say it's a joke, but i don't find it funny, i find it offensive to gay people.
Also, please explain to me what bothers you about dressing around gay males. You dress around female reporters you don't find attractive right? what is the difference?

Kudos to the posters who understand how wrong the comments were and shame on the people who made light of the comments and are just sucking up to Haywood in their posts.
You say I need to grow up, but part of growing up is saying im sorry, I already did that but it wasn't enough for you. So what should i do to make this right then fake_song??? Any idea's? You got so much mouth and know so much, why don't you go ahead and enlighten me.

But then they cheer their asses off when they see 10 black men on an NBA court.
Just cause Haywood doesn't want to shower with gay men doesn't mean anything. Hell I don't like to shower in front of 80 year old women. That doesn't mean I hate my grandma.

The fact of the matter is this, MANY people were prob thinking the same thing you were but didn't have the guts to voice their own opinions - shoot, if u look @ the youtube comments, u see that many of the responses are similar to urs - but just because ur in the spotlight its a big deal.
In my opinion, u spoke ur mind and then came back to clarify ur statement - that's classy on ur part - folks wont let stuff die down until the next news story - being a celebrity must suck!
Anyway, I read ur tribute to MJ and as u said, he was "often misunderstood". I guess we cud say the same for Stephon.
Let's just hope the dude gets some help.
