Some Things Are 'Better Left Unsaid'

What’s up Yard?! Its ya boy B-wood! I’m here in Chicago getting ready for our last preseason game against the Bulls. I’m looking forward to coming out and having a good showing and building on that for the regular season (which starts next week)! While in Chicago, I’ve been intrigued by a particular topic involving one of my idols – the great Magic Johnson.

Magic has recently released a new book in which he takes Isiah Thomas to task. Magic accuses Isiah of spreading rumors about him being a homosexual when he announced that he was HIV positive and then goes on to say that Michael Jordan wasn’t the only guy who didn’t want Isiah on the Olympic Dream Team. He said that several guys played a part in black-balling Isiah and that no one really wanted him on that team.

When I first read these comments, I thought that Magic and Isiah were good friends, especially after that NBA Finals kissing episode. I also thought that Isiah was instrumental in getting Magic into his last NBA All-Star game when a lot of other players were scared to play with him because he was HIV positive. Isiah was one of the players who really stood up for Magic. Now, while I don’t know what has gone on with these two over the past couple of years that led to these negative comments on both sides, I do think that some things are “better left unsaid.”

Magic has always been a class act and first rate human being and there’s no need for him to stop now. These kinds of comments can only spark controversy, especially when you put them in a book. I’m not trying to criticize Magic like that because he is a Hall-of-famer and one of the all-time greats, I just believe that if you have a problem with someone, you take it to them, handle it man-to-man and say it to their face. And if you feel the need to put it in a book, at least have the courtesy to let the person know what’s being said so that they (and their family) are not blindsided by it when it comes out.

That being said, Magic is still of one of my favorite players of all time and I love him to death. I just don’t agree with him on this one. And like I said before, some things are “better left unsaid.”

Oh and thanks again to EA for supporting my blog. I’m still enjoying playing the new NBA Live 10 game they sent me and it's hot! I'm still waiting for any and all online challengers! (Reminder: my game tag is: brhay33)

  Agreed the path he took on these subjects is something that should've been discussed man to man... a person shouldn't have to hear something negative via a book. That's cowardice

  Maybe Magic doesn't have an issue with Isiah. Maybe he's just telling it like it was. Why write a book about a topic if you're not going to be honest about it.

    You can still be honest without telling everything. This move lacked character. Thomas isn't the greatest guy or anything but Magic was bigger than this.

    heads up for what? magic is recalling a part of his life. i seriously doubt that he's doing it to pour salt in the wound or to put isiah back in the spotlight. if magic wanted to write a 'tell all', i'm sure there are tons of stories about him, jerry buss and hordes of loose women after games at the fabulous forum.

  Magic usually is great at taking the pulse of how situations are viewed. I think he overestimated how much more Isiah can be hated here.

  I agree with you assessment of this situation. Magic should have gone to Isaiah about this and it makes Magic seem as another person piling on Isaiah Thomas. I wonder though if criticizing magic for using a media rather than approaching that person is any different from what Magic did to Isaiah Thomas. Certainly you are not trying to make money by posting a blog about this, but criticism is criticism.

  All Brendan was doing was just givingh is opinion. That's what you do on blogs. He also went to great pains to point out how much respect he has for Magic and am sure he is not trying to disrespect a brotha. He is just saying from "his" point of view what he thinks on the situation. I myself can't stand Isaiah either but don't beat a brotha when he is already down. The comment he made was hurtful afterall.

  Lets not forget that at the end of the day, Magic is a business man. What better to sell books than controversy, because that is why the media is talking about it, we are here on B's blog giving our two-sense. The reality is that at most levels in life, the purity of a friendships can be compromised when money is involved. So unless they were real tight, Magic prb didn't see the need to inform him, because perhaps from his perspective they weren't that close as the cameras and past reports would have suggested. On a more important note, B we need you to be a beast this year. I think the core of our team is going to be tested this year whether management keeps everyone together or start looking in a different direction. So my man, do you. You have the potential to be a dominate force in the league, keep believing in yourself and go out there and throw some bows and get it done...Wiz fan 4life...

  Despite the best efforts of the media to keep even Isiah's image clean (not to mention Michael, Magic, et al) the fact of the matter is that these guys are overly competitive children who could never keep a friendship together if it ever overlapped with winning. PERIOD.

  Bwood, Good post I also think magic should have made the statments to isiah directly, but i hate to say it seems like alot of pros turn into media gangsters, what happen to telling someone whats up face to face........on another note today the season starts im probally just as excited as you......I spent my morning defending the wizards to all the spurs fans down here.....Gotta get this win against the mavs im guessing blatche is starting next to you so hopefully he dosent get eatin alive by dirk, I say dom cracks the rotation and gaurds dirk, and im looking foward to stevenson vs terry...hope he cant feel his face tonight....but good luck and hold down the middle big Homie Im sure this will be a pretty easy match up for you in the midddle....

  I noticed right now you've got an extra bounce at the bottom of your knee bend right before you go up with the shot. I never saw that when you were working with Doctor Hoops Dave Hopla, then you were more smooth and controlled, the same motion every time. I dunno if master Hopla is working for another squad or if you can call him in for a re-tune but it might be worth the money considering those extra 4-5 points are worth millions on the open market at the end of the year. Just lookin out for my squad.
