Why the NFL Should JUST SAY NO TO RUSH LIMBAUGH!

What’s up Yard?! It’s ya boy B-wood! I’m chilling in Grand Rapids, Michigan getting ready for our preseason game tonight against the Detroit Pistons where hopefully we can back on track after losing 2 of our first 3 preseason games!

Since we’ve been on our recent road trip, I’ve been able to take some time to surf the web. One of the stories that caught my eye was a story about controversial radio show host Rush Limbaugh being a potential buyer of the St. Louis Rams. I find it interesting that he wants to own a piece of the Rams seeing as how the NFL is a 70% African American league and in the past he hasn’t spoken too kindly about African Americans on his show. Not only has he been outspoken about African Americans in general on the show but also the ones in the NFL. He was quoted as saying that Donovan McNabb gets too much credit for his team’s success because of the media’s desire to have a black quarterback do well. He was also quoted as saying that "the NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons."

Limbaugh was once a commentator for ESPN’s NFL pregame show but was pressured to resign because of his comments about race. If he wasn’t fit to be a commentator, what makes him fit to be a team owner? Since Roger Goodell has taken over as NFL commissioner, he’s been all about preserving the NFL’s image and I believe that just saying no to Rush Limbaugh would be another step in the right direction.

I also think that in the end, it would be a good move for St. Louis because let’s be honest, it’s going to be hard to attract African American free agents with an openly racist owner. While some guys will still come there because “money does talk,” I feel that at the end of the day this move will hurt the Rams’ creditability across the league and definitely damage the reputation of the league itself. So here’s hoping that Goodell JUST SAYS NO TO LIMBAUGH!

  Just looking at it without the right-wing, racist rants of rush, and look at it that several players have already said PUBLICLY they would not play in ST Louis, It would be a bad move for the league, yes players say one thing and do something else when the $$$ are flashed but i think many of the top teir players would stick to their word and not play for him

  Bad idea. Rush really is the wrong choice and it will definitely be a bad move by Goodell. Oh..and Brendan, I think 2k is a better franchise nowadays. Live lost me after 04.

  I think Rush should have the right to purchase any team that he wants to. Rush is color blind when it comes to money and could care less if the players are black or white. He's looking for power and fame like most owners in the NFL do. I don't know how old you are Brendan. In fact I've never heard of you until this article but let me explain why Rush made the comment. For several games before his remarks the white commentators on television were absolutely sickening when they were talking about black quarterbacks. There happened to be probably the most black quarterbacks than any other time in history. The problem was Brendan, they were terrible but everybody on television talked like Quincy Carter was Joe Montana. Rush finally spoke up. I know seventy percent of the players in the NFL are black but ninety five percent of all quarterbacks who have won a superbowl are white. Rush doesn't care. He just wants the money. I could care less if a racist like Al Sharpton owned a team either. If Al Sharpton made a comment about white runningbacks he would keep his job. Rush lost his job because he was white.

  Let`s look at this realistically, without political or racial bias. This was done the way it has been, to develop controversey, the fuel of Limbaugh`s program. He could have bought in quietly and kept mum about his owning a piece of the team, and little would`ve been made of it. I don`t believe that Rush, is racist, so much as conservative, a philosophy that the liberal media disdains. Others have made racially insensitive remarks on air, and not been excoriated the way many do to Limbaugh..
  
  Howard Cosell once made a comment during a football game, about a black player, that got him a few days worth of negative press and then it was largely forgotten. Don Imus got fired for inappropriate remarks about some college kids. After a few weeks of negative press, he was back in a better gig than he had before. The chief difference between Rush, and Howard and Don, is that the latter pair were known liberals and their cronies in the news media weren`t about to attack them into infinity. Rush isn`t liberal, and so the media hacks will dog him to the grave.
  
  Personally, I neither endorse Limbaugh, or disdain him. But I don`t believe that we need to hear from Sharpton or Jackson. This is a sports business development and neither of those two racist vultures are involved in sports. The NFL can police itself without the assistance of publicity hounds interested only in furthering their divisive agenda.
  
  But as for the Rams, besides the fact that they are in Limbaugh`s home state, I can`t imagine any sane person wanting in on a franchise that`s going to suck up ultra big bucks before it`ll be a viable team again.

  I totally agree - Rush should not be allowed to own a team - however, if he bought them and he lost all his money because no one wanted to play for him or attend the games, that might not be a bad thing - if he would leave the limelight forever!

  ok BH most of the time i agree with u but now i gotta disagree Rush isnt a racist i listen to his show im mixed (and to be honest im ushually very sensitive and easily offended extremly so when it comes to race) and to be quite frank his comments on my personal hero super 5 at the time were accurate today hes the man cause hes earned it,back then was b4 Vck blew up and 5 was the last black hope. in fact i quite clearly rember 5 saying the comments didnt even need to be apologized 4 because it wasnt racist. furthermore (oh ya i said that lol) if players dont wanna work for rush then thats there stupidity cause even if he was a racist (which hes really not) u cant feel racism when ur cashing ur giant NFL paycheck. Now im sure ill get thumbs down and called a raist but ppl r down right stupid for calling him racist when if Mike Wilbon had said Dirk was only liked by the media cause he was white, no one would say he was racist its a double standard cause if chris carter had said what was said about 5 that would have been perfectly exceptable as well.

    Well said, ck. If I`m not mistaken, his number one fill-in host is a black man. If true, wouldn`t that give the lie to those who claim Limbaugh is racially biased? BH, probably doesn`t listen to Rush, but has heard others claim that he`s racist. That by itself is a problem, those who throw labels around without regard for their accuracy. Why, someone once claimed that I was normal!!!!!!

    Where would someone be able to amass all of those quotes? Why, at a web site critical of Limbaugh, of course. What sort of web site might that be? Well, if Limbaugh is conservative, the critics must be something else. Something else must be liberal, or progressive, or outright socialist. As I said above I`m ambivalent towards Limbaugh, but the same is not true of socialism, or leftist racists, which is where `rush_truth` is coming from.

I am 47 years old and have never seen the out and out racisim that the Obama presidency has invoked. Yes he dose have the right to try and purchase a team, but, the NFL also has the right to turn him down if it is going to cause the league problems and trust me, if he becomes a owner, trouble won't be far away. Maybe he can field an all white team since they don't seem to mind him being the owner.

  Rush isn't racist... at all. Government's intrusion on education, welfare, and the war on drugs is what's racist and degrading. Rush wants nothing more than for Blacks to succeed at whatever they want to do.
  
  It very well could be true that the Media wants McNabb to succeed because he's black - I don't know - But to state that isn't 'racist' - he's saying the MEDIA is racist! And the media definitely has a history here in affirmative action.
  
  And stating that the NFL looks like two gangs going at each other - not something I'd probably say on the record, but it's more of a knock on their appearance and attitude than it is on the color of their skin.
  
  If you listened to Rush's show for a long time, you'd know he isn't anywhere NEAR a racist. Is his call-screener a racist? He defends and believes most of what Rush says on the air, even the McNabb quote, and he's an African American. Is Snerdley a racist? Why not? Because he's black? So Snerdley's allowed to believe that, but Rush isn't? Who's the racist now? Exactly.

  Don't take this the wrong way, but maybe we should all watch the Southpark episode where they debate about changing the town flag. I've always lived in small towns, so I don't really witness racism, are we making a big deal about nothing? The only problem I have with people is "speak English". My grandma did not speak English until she was forced to learn it in kindergarten. She did learn it, although all her life she seemed to prefer her native language, even though the grandchildren didn't understand - maybe that's why she spoke it around us!

  Limbaugh has to be one of my least fav people on the planet, but let's be honest, MONEY TALKS! How many NFL players have publically come out against Limbaugh owning a team? Hmmm, not very many and that's because, regardless of how they feel about him personally and no matter how badly he criticizes African Americans, most athletes are gonna sell out and take the money.

Money talks, but so do actions..... & his actions do not resemble that of a stable man... and WHY would a man that said PEOPLE THAT WORK OUT ARE THE ONES THAT ARE DRIVING UP HEALH COST, THEM GETTING INJURED & ALL want to have any role outside of fan with a sports team?

    My `not favorite` subject these days. I have health insurance, and even with it my meds cost just over two thousand a month. According to my druggist, the Obama insurance plan would raise that to slightly more than three thousand a month. I wouldn`t get any additional benefits for that hike. It`d go to `help` people I don`t even know afford insurance they may not even need. After watching the Stimulus plan send hundreds of thousands to incarcerated felons, I can just imagine what pork barrel my money would go in.

  Sheila Jackson Lee isn't a fan of Rush Limbaugh, but then again neither is anyone with a conscience, or intelligence. Sheila Jackson Lee, a member of the House of Representatives, called for the NFL to not allow Rush Limbaugh to make a bid for a
  stake in the St. Louis Rams. The NFL Commissioner himself said Limbaugh was a divisive personality, and the NFL is (supposedly) above that kind of thing. Well, it's now academic – the investment group has cancelled their offer to him. Of course, he blamed liberals – even though he doesn't know what a liberal is, or a book. Sheila Jackson Lee must be happy – no instant money from Rush will buy a stake in the NFL.
