7 Reasons Why I Think Michael Vick Should be Allowed to Play In The NFL Again
What’s up Yard? It’s your boy B back at it again! Recently there’s been a lot going on in the sports world. One of the biggest stories has been Michael Vick’s release from prison. Everyone is debating whether or not he should be allowed to play in the NFL again. I just read an article about Vick’s release that mentions how NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has the right to lift his league suspension but needs to be convinced that he is genuinely remorseful of his actions.
Personally, I think Vick should be allowed to play in the NFL again and I’ve got 7 reasons why.
1. Reason number one is because no one is perfect. We all make mistakes and we all deserve second chances in life. Vick is no different from anyone else and I think he deserves a second chance.
2. My second reason is because before his incarceration, he was a great football player and the face of the league. I think the NFL would be better off having another exciting player like him back representing the league.
3. Three is because his road to redemption will serve as a great model to youth. It will show that even if you make mistakes, you can rise above them. You can be down and out in society but if you put your mind to it, you can work hard and bounce back.
4. Even though I’m not a fan of what he did wrong, in my opinion, there are a lot of folks in the NFL who have demonstrated behavior worse than his. You can look at guys like Leonard Little, of the St. Louis Rams, who pleaded guilty to a DUI that killed a woman in St. Louis in 1998 (his blood-alcohol level was twice the legal limit). Since then, he’s had at least one other DUI offense in 2004! Jamal Lewis pled guilty to facilitating a drug transaction using his cell phone. Numerous other players have been convicted of crimes ranging from domestic abuse to drug possession and are still being allowed to play in the NFL…
5. If Vick has the passion to play and is good enough, he shouldn’t be denied his right to pursue the career he loves.
6. Number six is a bit of a selfish reason. I enjoy watching him play and would like to see if he can still develop into the game changing quarterback that Atlanta thought he could be. His mix of arm strength, speed and quickness is unmatched and we haven’t seen anything like it. Hopefully he will get the chance to build on that talent because if he does, we may see one of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game.
7. Lastly, I feel that he’s paid his debt to society and should be allowed to work again just like anyone.
I think Roger Goodell is being tough on Vick by asking him to display “genuine remorse” for his actions. Who is he to judge if Vick is genuinely remorseful? Goodell works for the NFL but isn’t Vick’s conscience. Obviously Goodell hasn’t been the best judgment of character lately anyways (Pacman Jones). Vick was wrong but has paid a steep price. He doesn’t owe Goodell anything. He shouldn’t be held to a higher standard than anyone else. He’s served close to two years, lost all of his money, been crucified by the media and public and any additional punishment from the NFL would be as bad as the torture that he did to those dogs…

While I have never been a fan of Vick, I hate to admit it but.... I... I.... I agree.
-
i want him to play. any word from the man himself on what he wants? in fact, has he made a public statement of any kind?
-
So should people who have committed crimes in the past never be allowed to work again, even after they've served their time? What do you suggest we do with all those people?
-
they can work just not at a high profile job like the NFL. Would a lawyer be accepted back at his law firm for committing the same crime? absolutely not! Let him go un-clog toilets for the rest of his life.
-
EXACTLY!!!!!
-
Actually, that pays pretty good nowdays..........LOL. Every time a plumber has to come over, it costs me a mint.
-
Yeah, sometimes they tend to get a little messy. Had to upgrade my toilets with super sturdy pipes to be able to handle those.
-
what in the apples and oranges h? And what exactly do yo do for a living? My father is an active part of the Judicial System and with that being said A LAWYER, ATTORNEY, JUDGES , COURTS in it self..etc. Have greater obligations to live up to. Do they just attend college for 8 plus yrs and start their job? umm umm NO! There is a full process..They have have bars.. Present proposals, swear under oath..etc etc. In fact the positions are given such high merit that they have a ceremony to do so . Not condoning Vick for his past wrong doing but he chose to be a athlete and I chose to be a fan. We all have free will to watch him or turn the T.V. buy a ticket or skip out....In CONTRAST Anyone working within the Judicial System is APART of the Law so to speak.. appointed to fight and keep civilization in the U.S.A by authoritve direction. They are also obligated to keep sensitive matters out of public and they WRITE laws SWEARING and signing that they will obey them no matter what or "So Help me God". So with that being said he ( Michael Vick ) has paid his dues to society for slipping up in his "High Profile" job..Vick signed a CONTRACT to play in the NFL, unlike a LAWYER he didnt swear under oath to fight LAWS (to break them) !!
& since we talking toilets, besides the bullsh comments y.b is great! -
Rudegirl, that might be my favorite reply...ever
-
Rudegirl, that might be my favorite reply...ever.
-
rudegirl...greater obligations to live up to? are you serious? as messed up as it may be, sports athletes are some of the most common role models/idols of our children. our children aspire to be like these guys, they look up to them. whether or not it should be that way (i don't think it should be, but, alas..) that's just the fact. i'd say those are GREAT obligations to live up to. he has let them all down
-
Rudegirl I was using a Lawyer as an example, I could care less if they swear by the laws to not break them. How about a doctor? Or a president or CEO of a company? would they be welcomed back? NO! And the point you made about them having higher obligations to live up to, Michael Vick was a Quarterback in the National Football League. Millions of kids looked up to him.
-
Probably more crooked lawyers than there are crooked football players.
-
Wlhen you break the rations down, it's probably not so. Besides, there probably are more crooked Americans than Chinese.
-
Sorry, you guys sound stupid!!!! I didn't know there were so many gods.....I always that there was ONE and he was the judge. The man did not kill anyone, he simply orchestrated a dog fight, that I am sure many of you who are going against Vick, would have paid to go see. I am sure you guys are the same ones who praise Bush for sending our troops over to Iraq, having them search for invisible weapons....and that death rate is how much???? NOW THAT'S A CRIME....and HE WAS STILL ELECTED TO A SECOND TERM OF PRESIDENCY!!!!! But, you are saying that Vick can not be placed at a high level job as a FOOTBALL PLAYER, because of a dog fight. But, yet and still Bush who committed the highest crime of them all was placed back in the highest position of them all....come on now, where is your brains? Put yourself in his shoes, how would you want to be treated? Professional athletes are not some super natural human beings, they are regular human beings with extraordinary talent with regular human emotions that are not exempt from anything. If you guys have a problem with Vick for whatever reason, just don't watch him play or root againgst him, but in no means be a hater and try to hold him down.
-
I'd like to see if the company you work for will give you your job back after you commited a federal crime. Of course people that commit crimes should be able to work again. Theres a place for them... non high school dipolma entry level positions. Such as McDonalds, construction, janitors, and so forth. The world needs ditch diggers too ya know? There is no reason why we should have our children think its right to kill animals, serve our time, and then get paid millions of dollars. Letting Vick back in the NFL is really an uneducated decision.
-
couldnt agree more
-
no ones perfect bruh, sure his thing was incredibly sadistic, but completely unrelated to the sport. there's nflers who have beaten women (larry johnson), stabbed people (ray lewis, maybe), run over and killed people (stallworth), been involved in shootings (plaxico, harrison, pacman, and many more), sold drugs (jamal lewis) and numerous other heinous things. let him play!! he didn't hurt people, just dogs. shelters merk thousands a week because they can't handle the populations
-
He didn't hurt people, just dogs? You are one disgusting specimen of a human being.
-
Wheelman, every segment of society is a microcosm of society as a whole. Just like every race and ethnicity has crazy people, drug users, criminals, abuser's etc., every portion of society is the exact same thing. Therefore, if you have an imperfect society, you are bound to have imperfect parts of society...as society is just a sum of its parts. The only difference is that in this day and age, there are cameras and video recorders in everyone's front pocket, pocketbook, or hip. Simply put, we see everything. And if we aren't enough, we got TMZ following people around waiting for something to happen. And just like trying to find out if your woman is cheating on you, if you go looking, you are sure to find something you don't like.Don't be so judgmental.
-
LMAO @ "a businessman, an investor, or any other HONEST professional" Someone hasn't been watching CNN in the last 3 years! Question1: When has Vick DEMANDED that someone pay him millions? Has he even talked to the media since he has been out?Question2: Are you waiting on him to apologize to you? Because, he actually doesn't own anyone an apology except for the dogs that he has injured. And if you want one, you want one for your own selfish reasons...he didnt hurt you.Question3: How about the millions of dollars that Vick has donated to charities across the country? While you may have forgotten about those contributions, I'd bet that the people that benefited from them have NOT.Statement1: "What about EMT's..."I personally love this argument. Look, when you go to school or complete classes to do whatever it is you want to do with your life, you know upfront the earning potential of the career you choose. There are no EMT's or police officers that thought they would make millions doing what they are doing. When Vick chose to become a football player, he knew the potential. He also knew the risk. He knew that the chance of becoming a pro football player was exponentially lower than becoming any of the other things you named. He also had to commit to it at a very early age. Probably middle school at the latest. In America, you are worth whatever someone with pay you. And it sounds nothing short of jealousy to be mad that he is worth millions when you aren't.I played basketball with Haywood in high school. And while I didn't grow to be 7 feet, I had every chance to be the millionaire that he is today. The reasons that I didn't don't matter. What matters is that HE DID. And it would be RIDICULOUS for me to be mad at him for making millions while I sit here typing everyday for 60K. Get over it.
-
great post Qwest, I couldnt have said it better myself.
-
no, he hasn't DEMANDED that he be paid millions, but based upon the bankruptcy plan he laid out for the judge, he certainly EXPECTS to, or BELIEVES that he should
-
He did a crime...he served the time that he was given for that crime. While individual teams have every right not to hire him, it should be their decision, not the commissioner's. The second you become perfect is the second your judgment is acceptable. I won't hold my breath waiting on any of us to become perfect.
-
WOW...so we are getting biblical???The Bible also says Judge not, lest ye be judged first.
-
Wheelman...you are really reaching. You tell me that the Bible does not agree with me, but you don't cite what it is it doesnt agree with me on nor do you say where it doesn't agree with me. But somehow for me to be justified to you, I need to quote chapter and verse? PLEASE.
As for your other statement...yes, that is what we have courts for. They did judge him. They did find him guilty. But you are forgetting one thing. HE SERVED HIS SENTENCE. Therefore, he is back into the world with the same rights that you and I have. Anything more than that is YOU JUDGING HIM. But, I forgot how perfect people are.Oh, and by the way, that isMatthew 7:1-3 andLuke 6:37-39From your comments, I am not surprised that you haven't read those Books. -
Qwest, arguments based on the bible hold ZERO weight in debate. nice try tho
-
Where does Federal law state that he doesn't have the same rights to work in the NFL as anyone else does? As for staying at "a hotel in Kansas City", how is it that on one hand, you have no problem with him being subjected to the laws of the land and required to server whatever sentence they mandate, but on the other hand, you penalize him for serving his time in Leavenworth (sp?). You act like he had a choice in where he was to serve his time! The same court that gave him the sentence told him where he would serve it...so how do you have a problem with it???As for changing your opinions, don't worry. I never expected you to. I'll leave you with someone else's words about that:If in the last few years you haven't discarded a major opinion or acquired a new one, check your pulse. You may be dead.~Gelett BurgessThe man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind. ~William Blake
-
Wow...two bit hacks, huh? I get it...you aren't nearly as impressed with anyone else as you are with yourself. Sheds light on many of your posts...
-
get off your soapbox...this isn't of biblical proportions. He's a sick human being who should be working at McDonald's.
-
Maybe you both should look above at who made this a Biblical discussion before either of you accuses me of taking it there OR being on a soapbox.
-
Alright. Let's call Jerry Falwell and put an end to this right now!!!!
-
He was committed and was judicially punished for committing a felony...he should not be allowed nor even given any consideration for working for the NFL, nor any job that entails being a role model of any sort. He gave up that right when he decided animal lives were unimportant.
-
Anyone can be a role model..as a criminal, he probably wont be a role model..but that doesn't mean he shouldn't be allowed to play football. The only reason he is a role model as opposed to you is that he can play football and make millions of dollars. If you ever find a way to make a million dollars, I'm sure you'll then become a role model. Until that day, shut up...and give up your weak argument.
-
Being a player in the NFL doesn't entail being a role model. It is something that is hoisted upon professional athletes because of a lack of role models in real life. That is more of a failure of us "regular" people than it is a fault of a professional athlete.
-
WOW...SOMEONE WRITE THIS MOMENT DOWN! lol
-
that's fine, i agree he should be able to play again in the league, and the commissioner should reinstate him. however, if i were an NFL owner, NFW in hell would i invite that distraction to my locker room, and that absolute PR nightmare that would follow for my franchise. I doubt ANYONE would invite that into their fold.
-
I have commented onthis issue so much,I am sick ! ! ! !
-
Brendan, at no time, in any of your reasons, did you mention that he murdered dogs in an absolute grotesque way. does that matter? i dont think you need 7 reasons for him to play, its just one. pursuit of happiness. i think he should be reinstated and will be, but some of your reasons are bogus. 2. because hes a great and exciting football player? great, he is a scumbag. road to redemption. yes kids don't worry, if you commit a crime, and have exceedingly good talent at something, you'll be able to come back and make lots of money anyway!!!! great example,no. the only good reason i thnk that was on the entire list was the fact that he did pay his debt to society. i realize i am playing a little bit of devils advocate, but i think that is the only thing that matters, he paid his debt. who cares, he'll never be a role model (like he was). personally, if he gets back in the league i would love to see what his jersey sales look like
-
jarhead21 i agree with you I didn't need 7 reasons to explain why vick deserves a 2nd chance, but his number is 7 so I said what the hell i'm gonna give the people 7 good points. But I disagree with you thinking that some of my points are bogus. I think all of my points are very valid. You had a problem with point number 2, the fact of the matter is if he wasnt a great and exciting football payer this wouldn't even be a story and nobody would care if he was given a 2nd chance. you also didn't like my road to redemption theory, and I truly don't see how you missed this point. If mike vick comes back and plays well, says all the right things and doesn't get in trouble again it can be a good example to young kids with checkered past. It can show them that your past is your past and that they can still do great things. Just because you start off wrong doesn't mean you have to end that way.
-
Sorry, but if you break a law with such a HEINOUS crime...you don't deserve another shot at millions of dollars. He's had his chances, and is as dumb as his brother. Obviously they weren't brought up properly, but they were both given free college educations and a chance to do great things with their lives and they FAILED. Putting my love for animals aside, second chances should not be given to convicted felons. He can get a construction job, mop floors at BK, or whatever he might be qualified for. His NFL ship should have sailed.
-
Ditto.
-
Wow! no 2nd chances huh? That's just nuts DTRIK19, I think your totally off on this one. I hope your not a judge, becuase it seems like you would give everybody the electric chair! My pastor in nc was once a drug addict and even sold drugs to children, he was given a 2nd chance and has been clean for over 20 years and has lead many souls to jesus. Im glad somebody decided to give him a 2nd chance and I think the thousands of members at evangel fellowship would agree. And I think selling drugs to kids is a lil more heinous than killing dogs, but thats just my opinion.
-
again would a CEO or a Lawyer be welcomed back at his job??? NO HE WOULDN'T! I agree he deserves to earn a living, but that living should be at McDonalds.
-
Lots of companies won't hire felons. Why should it be any different in the NFL? I'm with ya, man. It's a business. Who wants a crooked dude like Vick working for them. How much money did he cost the Falcons by making those stupid decisions?
-
I am really beginning to wonder if this serious......are you guys really upset that VICK had a fight with his dogs, or are you guys being racist? YOU GUYS HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME.
-
Even though I find his actions hideous, everyone deserves forgiveness if they ask for it. He did his time, and maybe he can do something positive for animals in need. I'm a huge dog lover myself.
"When we forgive evil we do not excuse it, we do not tolerate it, we do not smother it. We look the evil full in the face, call it what it is, let its horror shock and stun and enrage us, and only then do we forgive it."
Lewis B. Smedes - Forgive & Forget: Healing the Hurts We Don't Deserve -
You're no dog lover if you forgive this sh*t. You must own pit bulls
-
First off, I've adopted 4 dogs now - A weimaraner, boxer/rottweiller, rhodesian ridgeback & black mouth cur. All are rescues from various groups that no one else wanted, or would have saved from being euthanized. I would adopt a pit bill in a second - they are beautiful dogs who have been given a bad wrap by stupid people. I also transport dogs in need out of high risk shelters to rescues.
My point is this - I was mad as hell when this story broke too. It made me sick. I watched one of the commentators on Sport Center break the story as "Animal lovers can be way too sensitive...", and I was incensed...anyone hearing the details of what Vick did to these innocent dogs should have been moved...
But now here's my goal. I don't want it to happen again. I want dog fighting and animal cruelty to stop. Instead of digging in our heals and spending forever following Vick with hate, I'm going to forgive him. I for one would like to give him the reason not to commit such crimes again - show him how good animal lovers are and how incredible dogs can be. That alone will be a very difficult thing for Vick to live with, knowing what he did to those dogs, but it also might motivate him to do something from it happening in the future.
Lastly - I don't forgive Michael Vick to make him feel better. I actually think he's quite a sad man to have never been shown the beauty of animal companions, but instead of burning him continuously at the cross, I would like the violence he's shown to his dogs to not be lost. -
I agree with you 100% !!!! I have two rotties and four puppies!!!
-
How are you going to tell someone you don't even know what they are or aren't just because their opinion differs from yours? But I am the one who needs to get off a soapbox??? Please. Your opinion is your own and you are just as welcomed to have it as anyone else is welcomed to disagree. Just because you think it doesn't make it fact.
-
great quote!
-
I would be a lot easier to forgive him if he didn't try to lie his way out of it when he got caught. At this point, whenever I see him it looks to me like he's just saying what he THINKS he should say, not what he is truly feeling.
-
he recieved and served his punishment from courts of the land, not from wantabe's on blogs. If NFL says its alright, he should be allowed to try out. Wont be easy with all watching, but he just like anyother felon deserves another chance, just don't mess up agian, hope he makes it....... Have a nice day all..
-
Vick committed a crime against animals..soldiers kill thousands of innocent Iraqis everyday and are hailed as heroes....the farming industry kills millions if not billions of cows, pigs, and poultry every year ( have you ever seen how grotesque a slaughter house is)..it is true that killing a dog is a criminal offense, however, if we are "justified" in allowing our government and citizens to slaughter Native Americans, enslave Africans, discriminate harshly against nonwhites and women, and create the most powerful empire on earth (which has directly and indirectly killed hundreds of millions of people in its 200+ years of existence) then we should allow a meddling dog fighter (who has served far too much prison time) to go back to any career he wants. Don't be mad because you and millions of others are not in the positions to make the millions of dollars he is able to earn as a football player. If he was just a doctor, emt, or any other professional who got caught dog fighting, none of this uproar would have ever occurred. Go back to your lame life WHEELMAN, and find a better point than stating that a "scumbag" shouldn't be allowed to play football just because you yourself are not able to. So we shouldn't have "scumbags" in the NFL..but we can have "scumbag" investment bankers, CEO's, Physicians, Attorneys, Teachers, Auto Mechanics, Politicians, etc...your point in incredibly weak and ineffective.
-
Comparing soldiers to Michael Vick? That's too damn funny. Or, should I say, pathetic.
-
roddyrod is a first class dumbassssssssssssss
-
I'm a dumb ass but you're not articulate enough to offer an argument to my position...maybe you should rescind your pathetic statement. Thanks.
-
yeah you are a dumbass. you've blown it completely out of proportion, and your argument is totally asinine. FIRST, i dare you to offer your response to a marine. in fact, i triple DOG dare you. SECOND, to compare the killing of animals in the meat industry to the forced rape, the electrocution, hanging, drowning, and vicious death of dogs in the pit, you are out of your damned mind...as human beings, we have evolved to stand up right, etc. etc. and we have canine teeth and incisors....evolutionary proof that man is a carnivore. THIRD, you think america is an evil empire responsible for the deaths of upwards of 200 million people? seriously?! where can you back this up with LEGIT information not from some conspiracy theorists blog/pinko-commie liberal group site, or TERRORIST propaganda.

I'd be interested in knowing where my lies are and my dementia is demonstrated..educate me please?
-
This is the way I feel about Vick... my personal feelings don't matter , He did his time, I am not the one who he will be judged by in the end and if he is truly remorseful then he will be forgivin and I would feel the same WHOEVER it was or WHATEVER they did. But when you wake up everyday without need or want for anything and doing what you love to do with a talent that you were givin and throw it away over dog fighting thats what bothers me.....Oh and you are leaving out a few things HE WAS'T JUST WATCHING!!!!. There is so much more that goes into this.... killing the weak, and sacraficing the runts, Beating and torchering them first to make them vicious And if they do not die in the fight you kill them. As far as the comments you made sure there are bad apples in every bunch But you crossed the line because there are hard working farmers who feed your family that don't do the things you say........And My sons father is one of those HEROS that has been to Iraq twice and is serving in Afghanistan right now and put his life on the line for your dumb A$$ to be able to have the freedom to make stupid comments like that!
-
Thank you wheelman......kinda unlike me... but touchy subject!
-
I really don't think criminals should be allowed to play in pro sports at all. Unfortunatly, athletes are held on a very high pedestal in our society. Most people adore them, idolize them, want to be them. And for most people, as long as a guy who committed a crime plays well, it doesn't matter what they did in the past. And allowing him to go back to the NFL is not teaching anyone a lesson, it's not being fair. He gets to go back and make millions, be idolized by people. While a guy in the same boat as him, who was not an athlete, is stigmatized, and has to work hard to find a job. I say, Vick works a normal job and then earns his way back into the NFL.
-
Vicks way of "earning his way back" to the NFL will be demonstrated by his talent level and ability to play football. No one stops a criminal CEO from becoming a CEO once again..or a criminal lawyer, doctor, cook, or janitor. If you were to commit a crime and your job still wanted you to come back and work for them, wouldn't you want to come back?? I'd think so...
-
Marion Berry????? Shoot, he was the mayor of D.C. and got re-elected after getting caught in a hotel room with a crack pipe and a hooker. Rare case, but thought I would bring it up..........LOL.
-
That's beside the point. It is the company that should have the right to say no. Look, I have the opinion that Goddell should reinstate him fully. But if no team wants to pick him up for WHATEVER THE REASON, i don't have a problem with it. I only have a problem with him being denied the opportunity for it. He did NOT lose his right to the American Dream for what he did. Maybe he is sorry for what he did and maybe he isn't. BUT IT IS NOT OUR JOB TO JUDGE HIM FOR THAT. He has been judged by the laws of this world, was convicted, and served his time. And if you are a religious/spiritual person, you believe that he will be judged in the afterlife for things that you and I will NEVER know. Only for a purely self-righteous person should that not be enough. Whether he makes it back or not, there are no laws of this land that say he doesn't deserve the chance.
-
We forgot Martha Stewart. ;-P
-
Hockeychick23 if you show me were in the constitution it says if u go to jail you cant get a good job then I will agree with you. Bottom line is once you do your time you are allowed to try and get some resemblence of your life back. If somebody wants to pay him and he can still play then so be it. And the fact that he gets to make millions is not relevant in this arguement, he has lost over 100 million with this dumb ass crime he committed. Anytime somebody says that he shouldnt be allowed to make millions anymore it just comes off as jealousy and hate to me. his salary isn't important.
-
Some ppl in general have double standards and some of these Law abiding yb's (yes im a law abiding citizen) seems as if they only want to talk LAW when talking about criminal, thug or goon to support there statement. You made a good point bc the Constitution/First Amendments are also apart of the law (one of the most seasoned) but that part isnt working for them so they rather ignore it bc it doesnt fit there conspiracy theories. I hate to be the barrier of bad news but you Cant have one without the other. And thats why Michael Vick has a good chance at playing for the NFL again, cause unlike some of his ridiculers the judge weighed his wrong doing in every aspect of the Constitution and Animal Laws for the state in which the actions occured (Virginia) and acted accordingly ...And lastly you're right.. money has nothing to do with it but that also explains character..i can talk about money all day but I have morals and at any rate JEALOUS ones will envy!
-
I think it's a little unfair to say I'm jealous of the money he makes. I was trying to make a comparsion to him and a regular joe in the same situation. I never even stated that he shouldn't get to make his money either. I made a general statement about comparison and obviously it was misunderstood. I am not jealous of the money he makes or anyone who's a pro makes. I in fact do make enough money enough money to live the way I feel most comfortable in. I can pay for my own education without taking out loans and things like that. And I can afford to train with one of the best rowing coaches in the country.
-
Wow...look at all these glass houses around here...
-
I obviously don't have one. I don't know if you have children or not, but I don't want you in court asking the court for forgiveness should one of them ever get in trouble. I want you to stick to your guns just like you do with him. Don't be a hypocrite.
-
roddy, you have no clue. i would love to see michael vick do what he did to those dogs to you. traitor. im gonna catch some stuff for this probably, but that was essentially a direct attack on me, being a murderer.
-
You won't catch S#!T from me I have to watch my son cry himself to sleep because he misses his daddy who is in Afghanistan. Thank you jarhead21 for all you do !!!!
-
thousands a day........................hahahahahahahahaha wow
-
It was hyperbole..
-
he will play he will be back and he will make an impact!!!
Mark my words! He won't win a Superbowl but he will make an impact in the league once again!!
I hate to say it the controversy that would entail after his reinstatement would be not only good for the league but eventually good for the team that is employing him!!
Lets go Vick lets go!!! -
Or a huge pitbull.
-
Wheelman your outta control! lol! Mike vick must have stole your prom date!
-
LOL, I don't agree with you opinions here, actually I detest your opinion here regarding Vick, but I love your comeback!!! WTG Brendan!
-
thanks pam. hopefully all goes well and he comes home safely soon. according to that smackaroo above, the war should be over in about a week bc their won't be any iraqi citizens left. GO AMERICA!
-
The REAL question is WHO would want him???? Just because he paid his "debt to society" doesn't mean any one should want him as a major figurehead on their team. I'm sure there are tons of child molesters who paid their debt to society as well, but you sure as h e l l wouldn't want them as your scout leader, now would you???
-
Well, we have several of them as priests in this country. Can't seem to do anything about that. But, someone will take a chance on him.
-
BrendanHaywood....... I took the time to read your 7 reasons again and Honestly believe in second chances, and he has his talent and passion for football, and hopefully he will not take for granted the second chance to have a life young boys can only dream of. The one thing that concerns me the type of person that he is to have no compassion in the first place . Sure he is remorseful but for what?

WOW! I always enjoy posts like this on Yardbaker. Being human its only natural to wonder where another person head is at. And you showed me just that wih your Obama post and now this one. And also im refreshed to read both POSTIVE AND NEGATIVE comments it really helps me draw conclusions about a persons character..WOW!! just WOW!! (keep up the positivity)..

The man did the time for the crime, now get over it already and let the man move on with his life.

I think it would set an example to put him back in the league. They have already shown that people that kill dogs will goto jail. Putting him back into the nfl, i think he will prove that he has changed for the better. gotta look at the good side of this.
-
Would it be more acceptable to have him work as dish washer?
-
Right Paul...he doesn't have a problem with him working...just with doing that. Isn't that off base? Like Haywood said, salary is truly irrelevant to this conversation. Either you believe he should be able to work, or you don't. And if you do believe he deserves the chance to work, than you can't pick and choose what he deserves to do. He deserves to do whatever he can legally do (e.g. felony precludes him from being a lawyer, but not from being a quarterback) and he deserves whatever someone will pay him to do it. Plain and simple.
-
The Patriots may acquire him for cheap money to play backup and run the option play. Plus his behavior would be kept in check under the Belichick regime.
-
lol. No Way would that EVER happen! what are you crazy? Belichick would never want that kind of distraction here in NE. LMAO! nice one tho for thinking that.
-
Crazy? Are you kidding me!!! (lol). He would be Saint Vick after Belichick is done with him.

Brendan, you sure don't shy away from the tough issues. Just a couple quick things:
(1) Goodell is in the position of protecting the overall well-being and reputation of the NFL. The league has a personal conduct policy, and the CBA and teams give the commissioner the power to make these sorts of judgments. Vick signed a contract agreeing to abide by the provisions of the CBA. Goodell might have been too lenient with Pacman, but that's even more of an argument that he has a duty to the teams and the other players to make sure that Vick will not tarnish the league again before allowing him to play.
(2) Vick professed his innocence, lied about everything, and showed no remorse right up until he copped a plea. In his plea agreement on the state charges, he admits to actually killing dogs personally, not just being an absentee financier of the operation. I think Goodell's condition that Vick actually show some remorse is perfectly reasonable and justified. Vick should have no problem doing this.
(3) I expect him to meet the conditions and be reinstated, and have no problem with a team signing him if they are willing to put up with the PETA protests, etc. -
Wow I find it amazing that the people that do not want Vick back in the league because he would be making millions of dollars. If everyone playing a pro sport was paid an average salary would you even care? No because the people that have commented thus far want him plumbing or working at the local burger shop. Face facts and let the man move on with his life. Baseball players cheat and are put on time out. The man killed dogs and was put on time out. Let him go back and do his job.

What I said... it is sad that he had a wonderful life doing what he loves and took it for granted and did some bad things (Just like many OTHERS have also done ) My personal feelings of him having a hand is some of the worse parts of dogfighting is... my personal feeling ,I don't judge him, I pray for him and his family that they can get past this . He did his time, what he does with his life now is up to him. I don't want him and his family to have to worry about leaving there house because people won't let this go. One of my comments were directed to roddyrod about his comment on the US military. Also it is funny how People will give a thumbs down to someone who agrees with second chances, tries very hard not to judge, and pretty much thinks this is between Mr.Vick and his creator. The greatest thing that can come from this is not about football. Its about forgiveness and what good can come out of this now....Like not twisting it that you can do bad things and get away with it but when you make mistakes you learn from them and come back stonger. I rather not see him do anything with helping animals maybe donations! I think he shoulds spend the time teaching kids about making mistakes and learning from them. I hope this dosen't follow him forever.

paul13127 that wasn't supposed to be a reply to you, I hit the wrong button it was just a comment...Sorry
-
I agree with you. The dude has spent his time and now he should be able to follow his dreams. He is and always will be a football player. Not a Construction worker. Vick has 4 or 5 good years left in him and I wish him all the best. Thanks Brendan Haywood. All the best bro - Steiny!

The POS never has expressed ANY real remorse for his actions, only "regret" and "immaturity" on his part. If this hadn't been exposed, that yard in Virginia would be full of dead, buried dogs by now.
That being said, I believe he should be reinstated after serving a one year suspension, provided that one year is measured in DOG YEARS. Then see if he can make it in the NFL at the ripe old age of 35. That's fair, considering those innocent dogs will still be dead. -
then if the dogs are already dead why do you insist on destroying another living being's life. Vick being sorry or remorseful is irrelevant. He did his time so let him live his life. If the NFL wants to let him play because they see potential then let them.
