A Round of Applause - My Response to Chantelle
Aight Yard – it’s ya boy B-wood! My last blog stirred up a lot of controversy. If you didn’t read it, basically I just happened to address some of the issues that I had with Elin Woods’ actions after she found out about Tiger’s indiscretions.
In NO WAY or at ANY POINT did I ever say that cheating on your spouse is okay or that women should ever condone such actions. But I guess some people missed that. One person that definitely missed that was my fellow Yardbarker Blogger Chantelle Anderson. She proceeded to write a blog criticizing my points. The first thing she stated was that she had a problem with the fact that I only gave an “obligatory, “what Tiger did was wrong.” Well, we already knew that. As more and more females have come out saying that they’ve slept with or had intimate relationships with Tiger, we can all tell that he was wrong. I didn’t think a whole blog about that was necessary. But obviously Chantelle disagrees with me.
So for the last time, I’m going to clear this up. For all the folks who didn’t read my last blog fully or people like Chantelle who didn’t read it with comprehension: I DO NOT CONDONE TIGER’S ACTIONS.
Chantelle was also very mad at the fact that I criticized Elin for attacking Tiger with a golf club. She says “you can’t blame the wives for it, or for how they react to it, short of killing someone. Maybe one day they’ll realize that things can get dangerous when you play with people’s emotions.” Chantelle, STOP IT. Are you now an advocate of violence when you get upset? Two wrongs don’t make a right and attacking your spouse, whether you’re male or female, is wrong (in my eyes). All I was trying to express in my point about Elin was that her attacking Tiger with a golf club was not the right thing to do. When you’re mad at somebody, it’s usually good to resist your first impulse.
Another direct quote from Chantelle was “I agree that if Tiger and Elin are going to fix their marriage, money isn’t the main thing Elin needs to be worrying about. But after being betrayed and devastated in such a major way, I can’t fault her for looking out for herself monetarily.” Chantelle, your theory might make sense if we were in high school but the get-back strategy is not the right thing here. If Elin thought Tiger’s actions were reprehensible and she wanted to leave, I’d be the first one to applaud her as she walked out the front door. But what you’re saying is that, it’s not enough to just leave, you’ve got to make him feel some kind of additional hurt. That’s not going to give her any satisfaction. What’s done is done and cannot be taken back. Trying to hurt a billionaire is a really hard feat to accomplish. Her leaving, taking the kids and not coming back would have been a big enough statement made.
Chantelle finished that last quote saying “I can’t fault her for looking out for herself monetarily in case it doesn’t work out, because obviously her man isn’t going to do it.” I’ve heard other people say this as well. I really can’t agree with you here because the original prenup stated that if she left, she’d get $20 million. I don’t know how much Tiger’s child support would be but I’m sure it would have been enough to take care of her family. I think I read somewhere that Puffy pays $30, 000 per month and Tiger makes way more than Puffy. I think $20 million on top of child support is way more than enough to take care of children in these times. So, financially, she was going to be set whether she stayed or left.
And I’m not just picking on Elin here – I’ve never supported messy divorces with individuals getting over on their talented counterparts. I didn’t agree with Kevin Federline getting so much money from Brittney Spears when they divorced. I also didn’t like Heather Mills getting $48.6 million from Paul McCartney when they divorced either. (I never saw her on the cover of any of the Beetles’ albums!)
To sum this up, was Elin done wrong by Tiger? YES! Were Tiger’s actions reckless not only to her but also to his kids? YES! But if things were reversed and it was Tiger who responded to Elin’s cheating by attaching her with a golf club – they’d be yelling from here to the Mississippi – “LOCK HIS ASS UP!” I still think she was wrong for making this a money issue. If she had taken the kids and walked out the door with her head held high (with a substantial financial package she was already set to receive), it would’ve make a bigger statement to me. She would have been saying “Tiger, no matter what you did to me, you can’t put a price on my dignity or my self-respect.” And like Rihanna so eloquently put it – I would have given her a “round of applause.”
Aight Yard – I’m gone!
