Jeremiah Smith is a major five-star Ohio State commit in the 2024 recruiting cycle; in fact, according to the On3 Industry recruiting rankings, Smith is the No. 1 recruit in the entire country. Recently, ESPN gave out a few comparisons between elite commits and current college football players and matched Smith up with none other than senior Michigan football wide receiver Cornelius Johnson.

Five-star Ohio State commit compared to standout Michigan football wide reciever

From having similar speed to similar body types, five-star Ohio State commit Jeremiah Smith, the No. 1 recruit in the nation, is being compared to Michigan football wide receiver Cornelius Johnson. Johnson, a long-time wideout for the Wolverines, is yet to truly have a breakout year in college (largely due to Michigan’s offensive scheme) but has shinned on many of the biggest stages in the sport, such as the Wolverines’ 22-point win in Columbus last fall.

According to ESPN, Cornelius Johnson (class of 2019) and Jeremiah Smith (class of 2024) are quite similar. In a recent article, ESPN broke down who each top player in the 2024 recruiting cycle compares to, matching this future Buckeye to this current Wolverine. According to ESPN, both of these star wide receivers move like small wideouts, though they boast impressive 6-foot-3 frames and tons of explosiveness to match.

While Jeremiah Smith will likely have more opportunity as a pass-catcher than Cornelius Johnson has seen with Michigan football (again, due to offensive schematics), these two may not be all that different.
