Urban Meyer lists his five most important traits for a quarterback
Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

From Tim Tebow to Braxton Miller and JT Barrett, Urban Meyer has coached and recruited some excellent quarterbacks during his college head coaching career. But one thing that Meyer’s quarterbacks seem to have in common is that they don’t tend to possess outstanding arm strength. That’s probably because Meyer does not prioritize that trait when evaluating a QB.

While speaking with the media on Monday, Meyer was asked about Ohio State’s recruiting situation for the quarterback position in 2019. That led the Buckeyes head coach to discuss what he looks for in players at that position.

“We’ve had plenty of quarterbacks around here … that maybe didn’t have the strongest arm, but they were a better player. It’s about competitiveness, toughness, leadership, football IQ, and extending the play are the things we look for,” Meyer said.

“Arm strength is nice, but it’s not in the top five.”

Jim Harbaugh might want to take a look at Meyer’s criteria to see whether it matches up with his, because quarterback has been his weakness at Michigan (despite this fella’s remarks), while Meyer seems to have an endless supply of them.
