Al Pacino didn't recognize Jared Leto the first time they met

Nobody can blame Al Pacino for not immediately recognizing Jared Leto during their first day on set of House of Gucci.

"Al Pacino plays my dad," Leto said during Tuesday's The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, referring to Pacino portraying Aldo Gucci in the film. "I showed up for the first day of work in character, and I went up and I said, 'Papa!' He looked over and kind of just skirted away from me. I said, 'Oh, maybe he's a little grumpy. I don't know.' And then, tried again. I said, 'Papa, it's me, Paolo.' And he basically shuffled off again. Like, who is this creep?"

Leto continued: "And then someone whispered to him, 'Al, it's Jared.' And he turned around, he said, 'Oh, my son! My son!'"

Directed by Ridley Scott, House of Gucci is "inspired by the shocking true story of the family empire behind the Italian fashion house of Gucci. Spanning three decades of love, betrayal, decadence, revenge, and ultimately murder, we see what a name means, what it’s worth, and how far a family will go for control."

The movie centers around the murder-for-hire plot orchestrated by Patrizia Reggiani (Lady Gaga) that killed her ex-husband, Maurizio Gucci (Adam Driver), who was the grandson to Gucci founder Guccio Gucci and had sold his stake in the company. The character transformations were startling:

House of Gucci hits theaters Nov. 24. Watch the latest trailer and Leto's Tonight Show segments below.
