'Black Widow' and 'Cruella' will hit Disney Plus simultaneous with theatrical release

There's good news and bad news.

The good news, as relayed by Variety, is that Black Widow and Cruella will be available to stream on Disney Plus simultaneous to their respective theatrical releases.

The only slightly bad news is that Black Widow's release has been pushed to July 9 from its original May 7 date, and that only users with Premier Access who pay a $30 rental fee will be able to enjoy titles on Disney Plus.

Cruella, a prequel exploring Cruella de Vil before she became the vaunted 101 Dalmatians villainess, will still arrive May 28. The live-action film is directed by Craig Gillespie and stars Emma Stone as the titular character with Emma Thompson in a supporting role.

Black Widow has Scarlett Johansson as its leading woman, portraying her Black Widow role for the first time since 2019's Avengers: Endgame. The action film was originally slated for last fall before getting postponed due to COVID-19 concerns.

Additionally, per Variety, Disney has decided to scrap a theatrical release entirely for Pixar's Luca and opted to launch it with Disney Plus on June 18 at no extra cost. Conversely, Marvel's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was pushed to Sept. 3 and will be traditionally released in theaters.
