Josh Duhamel shares footage from nearly drowning in the Dominican Republic

Josh Duhamel stars in Jupiter's Legacy, which spans decades and follows a new generation of superheroes trying to live up to their parents' legacies.

While visiting The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, though, Duhamel shared that he nearly needed superpowers to survive a crashing wave while filming Shotgun Wedding in the Dominican Republic.

"I had some time off, and right below where I was staying, where my greenroom was, was this beautiful cove," the 48-year-old explained. "Earlier in the shoot, it was perfectly calm, turquoise little cove that I could jump off. I actually jumped off this platform into the water and swam over to the beach and walked back."

No need for a stunt double yet.

Duhamel continued: "Well, about a week later this place was completely different because now the ocean was really tumultuous that day, and the waves were crashing like 30 feet in the air. Well, this rogue wave comes up as I'm videotaping this thing and literally washed me almost over the edge of this cliff. Thankfully, there's this razor-sharp coral that's there that held me up, but it turned me into hamburger. ... It was one of the near-death experiences of my life, for sure."

Fallon then shared footage from the incident (2:42-mark):

In Shotgun Wedding, Duhamel stars opposite Jennifer Lopez. The father of one was a last-minute replacement for the increasingly embattled Armie Hammer. The romantic comedy centers on a couple's destination wedding gone terribly wrong thanks to invading criminals.

Before that hits, fans can watch Duhamel in Jupiter's Legacy beginning May 7 on Netflix. Watch the trailer below.
