Kristen Stewart jokes she wants to 'find the next Kristen Stewart' to star in her upcoming directorial debut

Kristen Stewart fully immersed herself into her portrayal of the late Princess Diana for Spencer, but she isn't interested in taking on the challenge of acting in The Chronology of Water, her forthcoming directorial debut.

"I don't want to be in it," the 30-year-old told Entertainment Weekly. "I want to find someone a little younger."

When asked if she's looking for someone like her, she joked, "I need to find the next Kristen Stewart, basically. Just please describe the look on my face while I'm saying that."

Stewart first revealed she was going to adapt Lidia Yuknavitch's 2011 memoir by the same name in 2018 (h/t IndieWire). According to the book's official description, it follows Yuknavitch as a lifelong swimmer who "accepts a college swimming scholarship in Texas in order to escape an abusive father and an alcoholic, suicidal mother." She eventually lost the scholarship due to drugs and alcohol, transferred to the University of Oregon and transitioned into an interest in the arts while exploring her bisexuality.

"We’re casting right now," Stewart exclusively revealed to Variety recently. "We've been putting together and have been thinking about this for a really long time. I'm so stoked. It's taken the time it's needed. Some of these take a decade to put together. I just jump every gun in my life and start talking about stuff before they're really relevant, but it's more relevant than ever. Now we're casting the movie. We're finding our Lidia Yuknavitch."

In the meantime, Spencer will make its U.S. theatrical debut next Friday (Nov. 5). Watch the trailer below.
