Rumor Has It ... that she has it all: Everything Adele has accomplished before turning 30

What do you do with a woman like Adele?

These days, after a few grueling, world-conquering album cycles, her chosen activity appears to be chilling at home and twerking yourself silly while watching Beyoncé perform at Coachella. This is a far cry from, say, 2007, when Adele joined one of her XL Records label mates, Jack Penate, to play a radio session in an empty hotel room. My, how the times have changed.

Born on the 5th of May, 1988 in Tottenham, London, Adele's journey from humble aspiring A&R student to one of the best-selling pop artists of all time has been nothing short of remarkable. She's had her ups and downs, but her well-written songs and stunning vocal prowess have made her stand out from the pack, which she's cleverly played to her advantage. For example, during the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards when, upon seeing who was performing before and after her, she and her management decided to make a deliberate "contrast" to the overstimulated evening by adding her calm, stately ballad "Someone Like You." It shot to the top of the charts immediately afterwards

So in honor of her 30th birthday, let's get inspired and look at all of the astonishing things Adele has accomplished, up to and including setting fire to the rain.

Established in 1992, the BRIT School has a bit of a reputation in England for producing some of the most talented musicians in recent U.K. history, ranging from Amy Winehouse to Imogen Heap to actors like our current Spider-Man, Tom Holland. Getting in isn't easy, but it is an intensive curriculum that allows young Brits to establish their early artistic identities. Adele wasn't in bad company either: she can count Leona Lewis and Jessie J as her classmates.

Back in 2008, after promoting singles off her debut album "19" for months on end, Adele finally landed a gig performing on "Saturday Night Live" and just so happened to be the musical guest on the election year episode where Sarah Palin made an appearance. Even though it was a bit later in the campaign, attention on SNL's political comedy had reached a fever pitch, and the episode ended up garnering 17 million viewers. Adele got a nice profile boost after the fact and later returned in 2015 to perform while Matthew McConaughey served as host.

Believe it or not, it's true. Back in 2008, right as she was launching in American and doing grueling tour work, she canceled a good amount of dates rather suddenly citing "family issues." She admitted to drinking during this time but only after revealed to Nylon Magazine that it was because of her then-boyfriend. "I was drinking far too much and that was kind of the basis of my relationship with this boy. I couldn't bear to be without him, so I was like, 'Well, OK, I'll just cancel my stuff then.'" Don't feel too bad for her, though, because as she notes, "I got a second album out of [the relationship], so it was fine."

Won the Grammy for Best New Artist

In many ways, the Best New Artist Grammy is a bit of a cautionary tale. Very few artists find middle-of-the-road success following receipt of the honor they either go big or go away. For every Mariah Carey, there's a Christopher Cross, and for every Amy Winehouse, there's an Evanescence. Fortune favors the bold, however, and Adele has managed to more than live up to the title, especially given that she won the award back when she was only 20 years old.

There's an extremely good chance that you, the reader, own a copy of "21," Adele's landmark sophomore effort. It's the album that has "Set Fire to the Rain," "Rolling in the Deep," "Someone Like You," that cover of The Cure, "Rumor Has It" you know, the big one. It wasn't that people just loved the songs: it's that the songs kept coming, dominating radio airwaves and the awards circuits for months and even years after it first came out. As such, her album has gone 14 times platinum in the United States, making it one of the 50 best-selling albums of all time.

At the age of 24, Adele took home the Grammy Award for Album of the Year, but that's only a small fraction of her Grammy history. She has won 15 statutes out of 18 nominations and even managed to pull off the rare triple-crown win of Record, Song and Album of the Year twice a feat which has never happened before or since.

Adele has been in a lot of extremely elite clubs, ranging from Album of the Year winners at the Grammys to musicians who have recorded a James Bond theme song. Although many had Amy Winehouse pegged as a contender prior to her tragic passing, Adele more than held her own when asked to contribute to this very selective group of performers. Unlike a great majority of Bond themes, "Skyfall" (for the film of the same name) was an actual smash, and one that routinely makes its way into Adele's live set lists. Adele would go on to win both a Golden Globe and...

While "Skyfall" was pretty much the front-runner for the Best Original Song Academy Award the moment it came out, there was definitely a stigma behind it, as no Bond theme had ever won an Oscar... until Adele. She worked on the music and lyrics with her standby producer Paul Epworth, and now she has a golden fella sitting on her mantle.

When you're breaking down records the way Adele does, it's hard not to be cited as an important cultural figure. In 2012, Time added her to the "Time 100" with Adele's teenage idol P!nk writing, "Her success renews hope in me that the world I live in has good taste." In 2016, Jennifer Lawrence paid tribute, saying "Adele is a gift, an international treasure, but she’s also sweet, funny, intelligent and beautiful."

Now, this is a little bit tricky. When Taylor Swift noted in her 2016 acceptance speech for "1989," she was the only woman to win Album of the Year twice, followed by Adele the following year. Technically, as a standalone solo entity, yes, Taylor and Adele are the only two to do that for their own albums. But make room for Lauryn Hill, Norah Jones and Alison Krauss, as they've won that same prize twice but for being in different projects outside of their solo careers.

If you love James Corden or hate him you're not wrong. Yet while his popular Carpool Karaoke segment helped put him on the map, nothing was better than when Adele swung by. She revealed secrets of her album (she played the big drums on "Hello"), sang beautifully and then dropped an epic rendition of Nicki Minaj's classic verse in the Kanye West song "Monster." Corden's tried to improve upon the formula multiple times since then, but Adele's segment is still the most viewed by a landslide.

If you've ever seen Adele live, in interviews or even when giving acceptance speeches, you know that she's damn funny. Honest, quick-witted and just that right amount of vulgar, her personality is what keeps us hooked and fascinated during her non-singing moments. She's also had a good poke of fun at herself, playing an Adele impersonator in a hilarious Graham Norton segment leading up to the release of her third album, "25." To top it off, "Saturday Night Live" once wrote a sketch over how sad "Someone Like You" is and then followed it up with how everyone loves her despite our political divides . Lionel Richie loved it when people mashed up his "Hello" with hers, and if you've ever seen the celebrity-impersonating "Snatch Game" on "RuPaul's Drag Race," comedy queen Ginger Minj's imitation of her is one of the funniest things you'll see all day.

Married the love of her life

A breakup helped inspire one of the best-selling albums of the modern era, but it's her relationship with Simon Konecki that has brought her the most joy. The two have a child together, but for the longest time, all the press had to go on about her relationship status was speculation. When she won the Album of the Year Grammy in 2017, she thanked her husband during her acceptance speech, which caught a lot of people off guard, as she never once confirmed marriage prior. When confirming the news on stage during an Australian tour date, she said, "As bad as a break-up can be and as bitter and horrible and messy as it can be, that feeling when you first fall for someone is the best feeling on earth, and I am addicted to that feeling. Obviously, I can't go through with those feelings because I'm married now."

When Adele announced her world tour to support "25," excitement to see the one and only Adele in concert was a tantalizing prospect for most. However, when the tickets finally became available, Ticketmaster's slow site and sometimes downright unavailability meant that every single seat at every single tour date sold out within nanoseconds (to say nothing of scalping bots). In a statement released to Billboard on the day of, Ticketmaster claimed that "their servers did not crash, though they did experience slowed performance due to high traffic volumes."

In 2017, Adele's "21" surpassed Carole King's landmark album "Tapestry" to become the single-longest running female chart fixture in all of history, then marking off an incredible 319 weeks on the Billboard album charts. It's a remarkable accomplishment, but Adele's still got some ways to go to beat the all-time record, still held by Pink Floyd for the unbelievable 927 week run of "Dark Side of the Moon."

Popes and kings count their Adele time in seconds, but when it comes to a charity concert, you can basically count on Adele being there. She's appeared at several, but also shows up for causes close to her heart: she brought cakes to the firefighters who responded to the Grenfell Tower fire in 2017 and makes sure that anyone who visits backstage makes a minimum of a $20 donation to the British SANDS charity.

Debuting at the top of the charts with 100,000 moved units is a pretty incredible feat for any artist. To move over a million in a single week? Those are Taylor Swift numbers. Yet, Adele is no Taylor Swift. The buildup campaign for "25" was gigantic, up to the point where many started speculating whether Adele would be able to fell *NSYNC's long-running record of having sold 2,416,000 units all the way back in 2000. Well, it's Adele, so of course she did, moving 3.38 million copies of "25" in a seven-day tracking period. It's fairly safe to say that that record will be standing for a long time to come.

"What the f--- does she have to do to win Album of the Year? That's how I feel." While "25" took a litany of accolades, Adele won the prize at the expense of Beyoncé's "Lemonade," which itself was a game-changing visual album that has been universally acknowledged as one of the greatest ever made. (When NPR put out a list of the 150 greatest albums made by women, "Lemonade" came in at No. 6.) It was revealed that she did, in fact, break off her Grammy, but the Recording Academy also handed her a replacement. Some say it was all accidental, but we know Adele: she meant what she said.

U.S. fans may not be familiar with comedian Alan Carr, but he's a witty, flamboyant entertainer who hosted campy-fun talk shows like "The Friday Night Project" and the long-running "Chatty Man." In January of 2018, he married his partner of ten years, Paul Drayton. What was kept under wraps, however, was that it was held in Adele's backyard in L.A. She insisted to Carr that she pay for, plan and officiate the whole thing, which she did. Details only started slipping out in the months following (and was confirmed later by Adele on her Instagram), but goodness, what a kind and wonderful thing to do.

Despite all of her Grammy wins, has had surprisingly bad luck performing at the ceremony

We love Adele in all that she does, but even when you're a superstar of her stature, mistakes happen. During her 2016 Grammy performance, she gave a lovely rendition of "All I Ask," and, embarrassingly, a microphone inside the piano fell down, instead picking up the twangy string vibration sound which marred the otherwise stripped-down performance. Then, in 2017, she gave tribute to the recently-passed George Michael by strangely turning his fun midtempo number "Fastlove" into a dirge. That's a bold choice, but her pitch was off and so was the pacing, leading her to stop the orchestra behind her and restart the performance right there on live television. In typical Adele style, she has publicly made it known how she feels about these type of things.

When Adele started touring around "25," she wasn't going to make the same mistakes that derailed her before along with the canceling of dates and needing emergency vocal surgery. For the "25" tour, she planned stays at cities with multiple days in between performances, allowing her voice to rest up while she got to actually explore her tour stops in question. However, this made the tour go on for just that much longer, which is why during her last tour date in New Zealand, she took time between songs to say "Touring isn’t something I'm good at... Applause makes me feel a bit vulnerable. I don’t know if I will ever tour again. The only reason I've toured is you. I'm not sure if touring is my bag."
