Sarah Paulson recalls Carrie Fisher inviting her to 'makeout party' where Matthew Perry refused to kiss her

Sarah Paulson didn't know what she was getting herself into when she blindly accepted a party invitation from the late Carrie Fisher.

Paulson told the winding tale of how she met the iconic Star Wars actress "very, very early on" in her own award-winning acting career during her trip to Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday night (June 21). That night began with Paulson meekly going to a party solo at "this huge executive's house."

"But then Carrie Fisher arrived; I'd never met this woman, but she also came alone," the 46-year-old recalled. "She had glitter in her hair, ... and we really hit it off. And I tried not to let on that I was a super fan. Don't think that went well. But at the end of the night, we were both driving home."

Paulson continued: "She rolled down her window and shouted out, 'Hey, do you wanna come to a party?' And I was like, 'Yes, I do! Yes, I really do!'"

Said party was a "make-out party" being thrown by late writer Gore Vidal: "I mean, it was a huge [party]. I think Queen Latifah was there. All these people were there, and I was obviously panicked because I'm neurotic. I didn't see anyone make out, but there was a hat with names in it, and you were supposed to make out with whomever you pulled out of the hat. Matthew Perry pulled my name out of the hat, and then promptly left the room."

That is such a Chandler Bing move.

Paulson clarified that it was "awkward" because they had already been acquaintances through one of her friends, so kissing was not on the table. "But then we ended up playing romantic partners years later on a show called Studio 60, and then I got my kiss! I got several kisses!"

In present-day COVID times, she explained to Kimmel, Paulson has sworn off large social gatherings—let alone a "make-out party"—and it was a stretch to visit the late-night talk show in person because she has only left her home "very briefly" over the last 17 months.

Her first dinner outing after lockdown, she revealed, was with Diane Keaton.
