These celebrity couples have stood the test of time

Two of America’s sweethearts, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, have been married for well over 30 years. The Oscar winner was married to his college love when he first met Wilson, but a couple of years later, they announced their relationship. Two kids and three decades later, this couple is as in love as ever. 

LeBron James and his wife, Savannah, have been together since high school. The couple officially wed in 2013, and they share three children, one of whom is a talented basketball player like his father. Though Savannah isn’t quite as famous as her husband, the couple has successfully navigated a relationship in the public eye. 

Though Paul Rudd’s wife, Julie Yaeger, isn’t in the spotlight like her husband, she’s still well acquainted with Hollywood. Yaeger works as a producer and screenwriter, and she and Rudd, one recipient of People’s "Sexiest Man Alive" title, have managed to make their relationship work in the famed city for decades. 

Both actors in Tinsel Town, Justin Mikita and Jesse Tyler Ferguson have been married since 2013. The two dated for a couple of years before tying the knot, and since their wedding, they’ve welcomed two baby boys into their family. Mikita isn’t just an actor, though. When the two met, he was working as an attorney. 

The secret to a lasting relationship in Hollywood might just be having one partner who’s not in the public eye — or at least less in the public eye. That method works for Meryl Streep and Don Gummer. The actor and her artist husband have been married since the late ‘70s, and they have four children together. 

Steph Curry has been married to his wife, Ayesha, for over ten years, and the couple share three children. Ayesha started her career in hopes of becoming an actor, but she pivoted to pursue other passions, and she’s known for her Food Network cooking show, her line of wines, and her hosting gigs, among other ventures. 

David and Victoria Beckham are truly a rarity in Hollywood. The Spice Girl and the football player have been married since 1999, and after years in the spotlight and four children together, they continue to be couple goals. They’re also among the few famous couples to have gotten tattoos for each other and stayed together, arguably a bigger feat than their years-long marriage. 

Chrissy Teigen and John Legend met while filming a music video. The pair married in Italy and have since welcomed three children into the world. The two are clearly in love, and Legend documented his love for his wife in one of his most popular songs, “All of Me,” released the same year the couple got married. 

Jay-Z and Beyoncé have had their share of relationship woes (who could forget the infamous elevator fight?), but they’ve come out the other side. Three children and over a decade of marriage later, the couple is still very much together and very much in love. 

Carrie Underwood shot to fame on American Idol, and five years later, she married former professional hockey player Mike Fisher. Underwood and Fisher have two children together, and aside from her singing career, they lay pretty low. Like marrying a less-famous partner, keeping a low profile might be a good idea for a couple in the public eye. 

Russell Wilson were both in relationships prior to marrying each other, but they’ve proven they’re in it for the long haul together. In addition to Ciara’s child she shares with rapper Future, the couple has two children of their own. 

Like many celebrity couples, Gabrielle Union and Dwayne Wade were also married to other people before marrying each other. They tied the knot in 2014, and in 2018, they welcomed a child, Wade’s fourth and Union’s first. Throughout their relationship, the couple has become known for being incredibly fashionable, having made several appearances at the Met Gala in coordinating outfits. 

Model Kate Upton met her MLB husband, Justin Verlander, over 10 years ago on the set of a video game commercial for Major League Baseball 2K12. The couple officially got together after years of dating rumors and Upton’s short-lived relationship with Maksim Chmerkovskiy. Verlander proposed in 2016, and they had tied the knot by 2017. 

A country power couple, if there ever were one, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill have been married since 1996. They’ve collaborated musically and gone on tour together, and they’re still happily married. Like many Hollywood couples, McGraw and Hill have faced cheating rumors, but their marital status has proven any tabloid speculation wrong. 

Few couples are as aspirational as Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds. After years of friendship and setting each other up on dates with other friends, the couple realized they were a good match, and they’ve now been married for over 10 years. Their shared sense of humor seems to be a point of connection for the two. 

Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith’s relationship has faced plenty of chatter. Jada has admitted to what she famously referred to as an “entanglement” with rapper August Alsina while she and Will were separated, but the two found their way back and have stayed happily married since. 

Salma Hayek has been married to her husband, Francois Henri-Penault, since 2009. The two got engaged in 2007, the same year she gave birth to their child, and they’re still happily married all these years later. Hayek is known for her acting career, while her husband is known for running the company that owns luxury brands like Gucci and Balenciaga. 

George Clooney was one of the world’s most eligible bachelors for years after his first marriage ended. Then in 2014, he married a renowned human rights lawyer, Amal Clooney née Alamuddin. After several years of marriage, the two are still happily together and have a set of twins. 

Denzel Washington is one of Hollywood’s finest actors, but his most important role is husband to Pauletta Washington. Denzel and Pauletta have been married since 1983 and share four children. The two met on the set of Wilma, and they’re one of the few couples who’ve proven that a decades-long marriage in Hollywood is possible. 

Ellen DeGeneres publicly came out in the late ‘90s, but it wasn’t until 2008 that she married. DeGeneres met her wife, Portia de Rossi, in 2005, and the two have since become known for their joint charitable efforts, particularly those supporting animals, which DeGeneres and de Rossi are both passionate about. 

Emily Blunt and John Krasinski are one of the rare Hollywood couples that prove true love exists. The two started dating in 2008, got engaged in 2009, and married in 2010. Blunt and Krasinski have also proven they’re one of the rare couples who can work together. Blunt has starred in two films that her husband has written and directed, A Quiet Place and its sequel. 

2010 was a good year for celebrities to get married. Alicia Keys and Swizz Beats also got married that year, and they’ve been together ever since. The couple keeps their personal life private, but they have two children together. 

Kristen Bell and Dax Shepherd began dating in 2007 and got engaged in 2010, but they waited until 2013 to get married as they wanted same-sex marriage to be legalized before they tied the knot themselves. Once the Supreme Court made it legal for everyone to marry, Bell and Shepherd wed at a county clerk’s office, and they’ve been married ever since. 

Neil Patrick Harris has been with his husband, David Burtka, for nearly two decades. The two began dating in 2004, but they kept their relationship a secret for several years. And although they got engaged a couple of years after dating, they kept that a secret until same-sex marriage was legalized. The couple officially married in 2014. 

Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone are quite possibly the funniest couple on the planet. The two have been married since 2005, and they frequently collaborate on their work. One of their most iconic scenes together is the plane scene from Bridesmaids, but they’ve worked together on other projects, too, including Identity Thief and The Heat. 

If there’s a couple to rival Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone for funniest couple on the planet, it’s Judd Apatow and Leslie Mann. The filmmaker has been married to his actor wife since 1997, and they’ve got two daughters together, both of whom act. Their eldest, Maude Apatow, is on the hit HBO series Euphoria. 

Penélope Cruz has been with Javier Bardem since 2007. They first met in 1992 but didn’t become a couple until over a decade later. The two wed in secret in 2010, setting the tone for their incredibly private relationship. They’re also one of the few couples to have both been nominated for an Academy Award in the same year. 

John Corbett and Bo Derek haven’t been married for long, but they’ve been together for ages. The couple began dating in 2002, and they married after years of dating in 2020. Prior to her relationship with Corbett, Darek was married to her first husband, John Derek, for over 20 years until his death from heart failure. 

It took Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen a couple of times each to get to a lasting marriage. Danson was married twice before, and Steenburgen was married once. Both parties entered their marriage with children from previous relationships, but they’ve been a happy blended family for nearly 30 years since their wedding in 1995. 

Another contender for funniest couple on the planet has entered the chat: Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Brad Hall. The two comedians have been married since 1987, and they’ve collectively worked on some of the most hilarious projects to date, including Saturday Night Live, Seinfeld, and Veep. 

Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick have PBS to thank for their relationship. The actors met on the set of Lemon Sky, and not long after, in 1988, the two married. Bacon and Sedgwick have since worked together again a number of times on projects like Murder in the First and Loverboy. 

Though Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell aren’t married, they’ve been in a long-term relationship since the ‘80s. Though the two share a son together, both have stated that they have no intentions of marrying each other. They’ve managed to stay together longer than most other celebrities, so they must be doing something right. 

Before the two getting together, fans probably would’ve rather seen Adam Brody with his co-star Rachel Bilson and Leighton Meester with her co-star Ed Westwick due to their parts on The O.C. and Gossip Girl, respectively, but Brody and Meester ended up being the duo we didn’t know we needed until they started dating in the early 2010s. The two wed in 2014 and have been making teen drama fans gush ever since. 

Elton John and David Furnish have been together since 1993. When the couple first started dating, same-sex marriage was not legal in the UK or the US. In 2005, when they were first able to, John and Furnish formed a civil partnership in the UK, and in 2014, after same-sex marriage was legalized in the US, they officially married. 

Freddie Prinze Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar are one of the ultimate 2000s couples. After meeting on the set of I Know What You Did Last Summer, they began dating a few years later. In 2002, they tied the knot, and they’ve since welcomed two children together. 

Sarah Paulson and Holland Taylor are both private about their personal lives and when they began dating, they did so without alerting the public. It was first reported that Taylor was dating a younger woman, and eventually, the public learned that the younger woman was indeed Paulson. Though they’re not married, they’ve been in a relationship since 2015. 

Another famously private couple, Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker have been together since the 1990s. The two officially wed in 1997, and they share two children. Broderick and Parker have worked together multiple times, most recently in Plaza Suite on Broadway. 

The celebrity couples who keep their lives private have really proven to be the most stable. Enrique Iglesias and Anna Kournikova have been together since 2001. Though they’re not married, they’ve maintained a stable relationship for over 20 years, and they’ve welcomed three children throughout their relationship, one of which was born in 2020. 

Mark Conseulos and Kelly Ripa have been married since 1996, and they’re famous for being a beautiful couple who like to embarrass their children via social media by posting about their love. They recently made their relationship more professional when Conseulos joined Ripa as the co-host of Live!, which she’s co-hosted since 2001. 

Matthew McConaughey’s relationship with Camila Alves has been alright, alright, alright since they wed in 2012. The two dated for about six years before marrying, and they now have three children together. Despite both being famous, the two don’t live in Hollywood, and they instead reside in Austin, Texas, which is likely another secret to a successful celebrity marriage. 

Julia Roberts was married to Lyle Lovett for a couple of years in the mid-’90s, but the couple divorced, allowing her to be with her longtime love Daniel Moder (after dating Benjamin Bratt for a few years, that is). Moder and Roberts wed in 2002, and three children later, they’re still going strong. 

Steve Carell married Nancy Carell, née Walls, in 1995, and they’ve been happily married ever since. Though her acting career isn’t quite as prolific as her husband’s, Nancy has been involved in several major projects, like a season of Saturday Night Live, the film Bridesmaids, and alongside Steve in a few episodes of The Office as one of his love interests. 

Pink has been with her husband, Carey Hart, since 2001. They’ve gone through periods of separation, once before they were engaged and again a couple of years after their marriage in 2006, but they’ve always reconciled. Their second separation did bring the public some great music, so at least some good came of it. 

Another couple to keep their relationship very private from the public, Benji Madden and Cameron Diaz, have been married since 2015. What some first thought to be an unlikely couple has proven to be a great match. The two welcomed their first child together in 2019 via surrogacy. 

Though they’re not technically married, Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes have surpassed common law. The two have been in a relationship since 2011, and they share two children. The couple doesn’t speak much about their relationship, but every detail we’ve heard from them is incredibly sweet and heartwarming. 

Hugh Jackman met his wife Deborra-Lee Furness in 1995; by 1996, they were married. Like many of Hollywood’s longstanding couples, Jackman and Furness are private about their relationship. The couple has shared that they tried to have natural-born children, but after Furness suffered multiple miscarriages, they adopted two children. 

While some might think that Ben Affleck is the love of Matt Damon’s life, it’s actually his wife, Luciana Barroso. Damon met Barroso in 2003, and by 2005 the pair were married. She was married once before and brought a child into her and Damon’s marriage. The couple shares four children. 

Oprah Winfrey and Stedman Graham are another couple that, though not technically married, prove that a long-term relationship is possible in Hollywood. While much of Oprah’s life is public, her relationship with Graham is something she keeps mostly to herself. The two started dating in 1986, and they did get engaged in 1992, though, as noted, they never officially married. 

Rob Lowe and Sheryl Berkoff have been through a lot together. The two first met in 1983 on a blind date, and in 1991, they wed. Lowe has been open about his battle against addiction, and the year before he and Berkoff married, he went to rehab. Lowe has been sober ever since, and he’s mentioned his wife’s positive influence on his sobriety many times. 

Harry Connick Jr. married Jill Goodacre in 1994. After nearly two decades of marriage, the couple share three children. They keep out of the spotlight by staying physically out of Hollywood, Connick Jr. and Goodacre have homes in multiple states on the eastern side of the country.
