Oregon transfer guard Brennan Rigsby officially committed to the Gophers Wednesday after visiting the program earlier this week.

A De Beque, Colorado native, Rigsby has had quite the journey to Minnesota. Originally committing to Northwest Florida State College (JUCO) out of high school, he wound up winning the NJCAA National Championship, averaging 11.6 PPG in 2022.

As the 11th best junior-college prospect in 2022 according to 247sports, he committed to Oregon, where he acted primarily as a reserve guard. He appeared in 57 games, starting 21. He averaged 5.4 points and 2.6 rebounds per game throughout his Ducks career and scored in double figures eight times.

The Gophers have an uphill battle trying to replace last year's starting point guard Elijah Hawkins, who shockingly entered the transfer portal earlier this week. But Rigsby is a solid place to start.

The 6-foot-3 combo guard joins the returning Mike Mitchell Jr. and incoming freshman Isaac Asuma in the Gophers backcourt. Mitchell and Rigsby aren't traditional point guards, but out of necessity, they might have to play that role for Ben Johnson.

With at least five scholarships open, expect Ben Johnson and his staff to remain active, but Rigsby is a player who will likely play a big role in 2024-25 in Dinkytown and he will have one year of eligibility remaining.
