Patrick Graham Likely to Stay with the Raiders
USA TODAY Sports

The Las Vegas Raiders may not have had the season they wanted, but many coaches and players had successful seasons individually. Raiders Defensive Coordinator Patrick Graham was one of those people. However, the Raiders finished 8-9 with many highs and lows. Their defense would be at the forefront of many of their victories.

After Coach Antonio Pierce took over the team in the middle of the season, Graham and the Raiders' defense blossomed into one of the best defenses in the National Football League.

Graham got great production from one of the lowest-paid defensive rosters in the NFL. He could take a defense with many lesser-known players and turn them into a formidable unit.

That, in turn, led to Graham and other coaches receiving well-deserved attention and opportunities for better positions with other teams. It was reported that Graham interviewed for multiple other head coaching positions around the league this offseason.

Graham interviewed mainly for the Seattle Seahawks' open head coaching position. After weeks of interviews and speculation, the Seahawks hired former Baltimore Ravens' defensive coordinator, Mike Macdonald, as their next head coach.

With the Seahawks filling their open head coaching position, it leaves coordinators such as Graham in a position where waiting for better head coaching opportunities to open up could be better than head coaching positions currently available.

It is the NFL, and things can change at any given moment; the fact of the matter is there aren't many other head coaching positions currently available around the league, right now. It could be best for Graham's long-term coaching future to wait.

While Graham has more than earned an opportunity to be a head coach, the dwindling amount of head coaching positions available makes it more and more likely that Graham will return to the Raiders.

For instance, the Washington Commanders' head coaching position isn't a better opportunity for Graham than returning to the Raiders for another season. Graham has the chance to return to Las Vegas, prove this season wasn't an anomaly, and strengthen his case for a head coaching position next season when better opportunities open up.

From February 27 to March 4, 2024, the NFL Scouting Combine will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind.

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently hold the No. 13 overall pick.
