Olympic gold medalist Suni Lee was 'too scared' to approach Justin Bieber at Met Gala

Sunisa "Suni" Lee persisted through pressure to claim three gymnastic medals — one gold, one silver and one bronze— at the Tokyo Olympics this summer.

But approaching childhood idol Justin Bieber at the Met Gala? That was too much stress to overcome.

"I met Hailey Bieber," the 18-year-old said on Thursday's "The Ellen DeGeneres Show." "Oh my gosh. I love her. I talked to her. I was like, 'Hi, I'm Suni.' And I was like shaking. And then, I was telling her about how I was dancing to Justin Bieber's 'Stay' for my first 'Dancing With The Stars' dance, and she was like, 'You should tell him!' And I'm like, 'OK.' And then when I got the chance to see him, I just got too scared. I was like, 'I'm not doing it.'"

Lee added she hopes to meet him one day because she and her sister used to have Bieber blankets and posters, "and the posters have, like, kissy marks on it with red lipstick."

"Dancing With The Stars" premiered its 30th season on Sept. 20. Lee has been paired with pro partner Sasha Farber and debuted with a jive to "Stay" by The Kid LAROI featuring Bieber, which has spent six weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Lee and Farber followed that up this week with aa cha cha to "I Like It" by Cardi B, Bad Bunny and J Balvin.
