MLB Insider Reveals 2022 Dellin Betances Update

Betances, 34, announced his retirement from Major League Baseball yesterday.

He made his MLB debut with the New York Yankees back in 2011.

He emerged as an All-Star reliever in 2014 and was selected to the American League All-Star squad four times.

Betances pitched his final two seasons with the New York Mets, but rarely saw action due to his injury struggles.

He retires with an 11.1 career WAR, a 21-23 lifetime record, and a 2.53 ERA.

Betances Calls It A Career

Betances had great potential and reached that potential during his Yankees tenure.

His best season came in 2014, when he went 5-0 with a 1.40 ERA.

He was primarily used as a middle relief pitcher or a setup man, but could occasionally close some games if the Yankees needed him to.

Injuries derailed his career in 2019, which turned out to be his final season as a member of the Yankees.

The Mets took a chance on him in 2020, but he posted a 7.71 ERA over 15 games in the pandemic-shortened season.

He appeared in just one game in 2021, posting a 9.00 ERA.

His lifetime ERA with the Mets was 7.82.

It’s sad to see Betances’ career end in such a disappointing fashion.

For a good chunk of time, he was one of the better relievers in all of baseball.

But after several injuries, Betances was just never the same and had seemingly run out of magic.

Betances had been in the Los Angeles Dodgers system, but after posting a 10.26 ERA at Triple-A, he was cut loose yesterday.
