Report: Alex Rodriguez, Jennifer Lopez preparing new bid for Mets

Former New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez and fiancee Jennifer Lopez aren't out on the New York Mets just yet.

The couple reportedly are working with senior bankers at JPMorgan Chase to prepare a new bid for ownership of the major-league franchise, according to Thornton McEnery of the New York Post.

Rodriguez and Lopez showed interest in purchasing the Mets earlier in the year, but backed out weeks ago. The Wilpon family, who are primary owners of the Mets, originally was reluctant to include ownership of the SNY regional sports network in the deal, but that may have changed, according to McEnery.

The Wilpons also have become more eager to sell the organization amid the coronavirus pandemic due to its financial effects on the organization, McEnery adds.

The couple reportedly are prepared to spend "hundreds of millions" of dollars out of their own pocket in this new bid and also have been preparing a "long-term" ownership plan in case they gain control of the organization.

Fred Wilpon has owned a portion of the Mets since 1980, and he's reportedly losing a large sum of money on the team, according to Forbes. While the Mets are valued at $2.4 billion, they could highly benefit from an ownership change. Since losing the World Series in 2015, the Mets have been disappointing. However, things seem to be changing as the organization has developed some young talent and is trying to bring in some star power.

Rodriguez's reported net worth is $350 million while Lopez's is a reported $400 million. If the couple truly wants to pursue the Mets, they definitely have the money to do so.
