The group led by Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez has pulled out of the running for the purchasing of the team. While disappointed, Lopez tweeted that they "still haven't given up." Lopez also points out that, along with Rodriguez, they would've been the first minority couple, and she the first female, to own a team.
Alex and I are so disappointed!! We worked so hard the past 6 months with the dream of becoming the first minority couple and the first woman owner to buy her father’s favorite Major League Baseball team with her own hard earned money. We still haven’t given up!! #NY4ever pic.twitter.com/sBBkliUjoL

Cohen, 64, is a hedge fund manager with a net worth of $14.6 billion. He's been a lifelong fan of the Mets and would become Major League Baseball's richest owner.
Cohen had previously offered to purchase the Mets for $2.6 billion, but that deal fell through.
The second round of bidding for the organization is set to conclude by the end of August, so the Mets may have their new owner sooner rather than later.
