Eric Hosmer Announces Retirement

Hosmer was a mainstay of the Royals when they won the World Series in 2015. He was instrumental in rebuilding Kansas City back to their winning ways. Two years later, he was the starting first baseman for the United States who went on to win the World Baseball Classic. He also won four Gold Gloves and was the MVP of the 2016 All-Star Game. Hosmer played with the Royals, San Diego Padres, Boston Red Sox and the Chicago Cubs. Hosmer was a premium defender at his position, winning four Gold Gloves and a Silver Slugger Award in his career. He is a lifetime .276 hitter who belted 198 home runs, hitting more than 20 home runs in three different seasons. 

The Cubs released him in May. Instead of joining another team, Hosmer spent time with his wife and kids. Hosmer did have offers to play this season but didn’t have the drive he once had with the Royals.

As stated before, the media production company’s centerpiece is the Diggin’ Deep podcast. It will be hosted by Hosmer, former major league relief pitcher Peter Moylan and Justin Su’a, a process and development coach. The podcast will be produced by Seratelli, who played professional baseball for ten seasons as an infielder in the minor leagues and Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball.

“We’ve always talked about doing something, especially after my playing days are over,” Hosmer said of partnering with Seratelli. “He’s had his feet on the ground for ten-plus years on this side of the business. Now that the playing days are over, I feel like I have so many fun stories that i want to give back. Especially these last couple of years of my career when I got to experience big markets, being in Chicago, being in Boston. I think this podcast is something where I can really have enjoyment and dig deep into other people’s processes and how that help them succeed.”

It’s no secret that Hosmer was a popular interview subject with the media during his playing days. He always gave detailed, thoughtful and insightful answers. Six episodes of Diggin’ Deep have already been produced. Hosmer has found that being in a position of asking questions instead of answering them has been interesting.
