Watch: Twins star nearly taken out by giant sausage

Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton had a close call on Tuesday afternoon in Milwaukee when one of the Brewers' racing sausages nearly took him out when he was emerging from the dugout.

Now that was a close call, and given Buxton's injury history, it is probably for the best that he avoided the collision.

Before the bottom of the sixth inning at every Brewers game, several giant anthropomorphic sausages race around the field. They were one of the first in-game races that have since been duplicated by giant pierogies at Pittsburgh Pirates games and former presidents at Washington Nationals games.

This also would not have been the first encounter between a sausage and an opposing player.

Back in the 2003 season, former Pirates first basemen Randall Simon hit one of the racing sausages with a bat as it raced by, knocking it to the ground. It turned out to be a huge ordeal that resulted in Simon being arrested after the game while also drawing a fine and a suspension from Major League Baseball.

The person that was in the sausage costume laughed it off and only wanted the bat Simon used to be autographed. (It was.)
