Spring Training is wrapping up on Tuesday and Opening Day for the Chicago Cubs is approaching. Thursday marks the beginning of the 2022 marathon that is the MLB season for the North Siders. In the meantime, the Opening Day roster is coming into focus. Naturally, the likes of Marcus Stroman, Willson Contreras, Frank Schwindel, Patrick Wisdom, and others will make the team. However, there are always players that are “on the bubble” that end up making the team. One such example occurred in the Cubs’ dugout on Monday. In a Spring Training game against the Chicago White Sox, Ethan Roberts learned he made the team.

Here’s the full video of this moment unfolding in the dugout:

Cubs manager David Ross informed the 2018 fourth-round pick that he made the Opening Day roster after his scoreless inning on Monday. Ross approached the young right-hander and made his dream come true by sharing the great news. In addition, many of the other coaches came to give him hugs and handshakes to congratulate the 24-year-old on a dream come true.

For the Cubs On Tap gang, and on a personal note, this is incredible. It is moments like these that remind sports fans why we love sports. Yes, we love the competitiveness, talent, and impressive nature of various sports, but the moments that touch the heart and connect us to humanity are the cherry on top. In this case, Roberts’ reaction to achieving every young baseball player’s dream is the type of moment to start your week off on the right foot.

What’s On Tap Next?

The Cubs host the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday at Wrigley Field to celebrate Opening Day. The Cubs and Brewers will play a four-game set to begin the season. David Ross announced his starters through the first three games thus far, setting up an exciting set of pitching matchups to begin the year. Thursday’s first pitch is scheduled for 1:20 p.m. CDT.
