Jorge Masvidal Rips Colby Covington For Blaming UFC 296 Loss On Relationship With Donald Trump
Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

Former UFC welterweight title challenger Jorge Masvidal dismantled Colby Covington's assessment of the judges after his UFC 296 defeat.

Masvidal lost to Covington by unanimous decision at UFC 272. He retired from the UFC following a loss to Gilbert Burns at UFC 287 last year but has hinted at a potential fighting comeback.

After their fight, Covington challenged UFC Welterweight Champion Leon Edwards at UFC 296 in December. He lost by unanimous decision and seemed uncharacteristically tame in his approach from the beginning of the fight to the end.

Covington blamed the judges' scorecards on his close friendship with former U.S. President Donald Trump. He was bashed in response to the comments, in which Masvidal has become the latest to weigh in.

Jorge Masvidal Dismantles Colby Covington's Post-UFC 296 Excuse

In a recent interview with BroBible, Masvidal blasted Covington for blaming Trump for his UFC 296 decision loss.

“He doesn’t know anything about politics,” Masvidal said. “He literally just attaches his name to Trump, hoping that Trump will one day tweet his name or maybe show up to a fight. But, the guy literally knows nothing about politics, knows nothing about immigration laws, knows nothing about 401ks, about foreign policies, domestic policies. He knows nothing...

“All this guy f*****g does is throw his money away gambling on poker and paying for prostitutes to be in his f*****g videos. So, for him to go out there and involve Trump’s name so much and say, ‘The judges don’t like me because I roll with Trump and they robbed me because of Trump!’ You’re a f*****g piece of s**t.

Masvidal allegedly attacked Covington outside of a Miami-area restaurant just weeks after their UFC 272 clash. He pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor battery charge in exchange for the dismissal of two felony charges related to the incident.

In recent days, Covington has been called out by top UFC welterweights such as Ian Machado Garry. As of this writing, a return timeline is uncertain as he works to bounce back from three UFC title defeats.

Despite the common admiration of Trump, Masvidal and Covington will never see eye to eye, and their bad blood has carried outside of the Octagon.
