In a newly released video statement, pop legend Britney Spears addressed those in the media who claimed she deserved to be hit by Victor Wembanyama‘s security following last week’s incident in Las Vegas.

“Hi, I wanted to share with you guys an incident that happened in Vegas that a lot of people are talking about,” Spears said in her new statement. “I heard on the news, this radio station, talking smack and talking s---. That’s why I’m addressing it, saying that I deserved to be smacked, ‘security was doing their job and protecting their client’…

“I didn’t appreciate the people saying that I deserved to be hit because no woman ever deserves to be hit. I simply tapped him on the back, I was backhanded, hit in the face, I was on the floor and my best friend picked me up and held me. And I did get an apology, at my table, 30 minutes later, but I have yet to receive a public apology.”

Spears also added that though she has been around some of the most famous people in the world, she’s never experienced a situation like the one with Wemby’s security.

Video footage of the incident has since confirmed Spears’ version of events from that night.

Britney Spears said she was just trying to get Victor Wembanyama’s attention. She said she tried to tap Wembanyama on the shoulder. At that point, one of the basketball star’s security guards swatted her away, hitting her face with such force that she stumbled and lost her glasses. She later addressed the incident on her Instagram account.

“Traumatic experiences are not new to me and I have had my fair share of them. I was not prepared for what happened to me last night,” she wrote.

Wembanyama responds to Spears incident

Although Spears filed a report alleging battery, the AP later reported that the Vegas police ended their investigation Friday morning with no charges filed.

Wembanyama, in an interview Thursday, said Britney Spears grabbed him from behind.  “I just know the security pushed her away,” he told reporters. “I don’t know with how much force though, but security pushed her away.” He added that he “didn’t stop to look” back at who it was.

He said a Spurs security guard told him more specifics two hours later. “At first, I was like, ‘No, you’re joking,’ but yeah, it turns out it was Britney Spears. I never saw her face. I just kept walking straight.”

It’s difficult to blame the budding star. Standing at 7-foot-5, Wembanyama stands out in any crowd. The Frenchman likely has learned to simply keep his head down and avoid fans.
