Grizzlies Reveal Massive Desmond Bane Injury Update
Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

Memphis Grizzlies sharpshooter Desmond Bane is progressing toward returning to the team’s lineup before the end of the 2023-24 NBA season. Ahead of Tuesday’s matchup against the Washington Wizards, Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins provided an encouraging update on Bane’s recovery journey.

Jenkins revealed that Bane has been participating in three-on-three basketball activities for the past two weeks and has recently advanced to five-on-five drills over the last few days.

“(Bane’s) working really hard, so I envision in a couple games here, he’s back in the lineup,” Jenkins said, via Commercial Appeal.

Bane’s absence from the court began on January 12, following a game against the Los Angeles Clippers where he suffered a Grade 3 left ankle sprain. The team’s announcement on February 22 projected Bane’s recovery timeline to be between three to five weeks. Approaching the three-week mark, Bane appears to be on track for a timely return.

In his performance before the injury, Bane has impressively recorded career highs, averaging 24.4 points and 5.3 assists per game across 37 appearances.

Additionally, he has been successful in achieving a career-high average of 3.3 three-pointers per game, showcasing his critical role in the Grizzlies’ offensive strategy. Bane’s impending return is eagerly anticipated, promising a significant boost to the team’s performance as they continue their campaign.
