Nets Coach Jordi Fernandez Promises ‘Results Right Away’
Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

Jordi Fernandez is entering his first job as an NBA head coach and already he is winning the press conference. Fernandez is the new main man for the Brooklyn Nets after two seasons as an assistant under Mike Brown with the Sacramento Kings.

He was introduced to the Brooklyn media on Wednesday.

“We will see results right away because this industry is about getting results,” Fernandez told reporters, via Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.

Fernandez, 41, replaces interim coach Kevin Ollie, who replaced Jacque Vaughn, fired during the regular season. He spent time as an assistant with the Denver Nuggets (2016-22), and Cleveland Cavaliers (2009-16) during the LeBron James era. He also served as head coach of the G League’s Cleveland Charge.

He has quite a bit of work in front of him, as the Nets missed the postseason and have some roster decisions to make this summer.

“As we progressed through an extensive search over the past six weeks, it became increasingly clear that Jordi is the best coach to lead our team forward,” GM Sean Marks said in a statement announcing the hire. “Jordi brings a diverse set of experiences and basketball knowledge gained over the course of a coaching career that has taken him around the world.

“Each step of the way, Jordi has consistently demonstrated the ability to implement strong processes and creative systems designed to optimize each team’s specific roster. He’s proven the ability to build genuine relationships and garner the respect of players of all levels, and we’re confident that our players will benefit greatly from his expertise.”

Fernandez has also served as head coach of the Canadian national team. He has interviewed for several openings in recent years, including the Charlotte Hornets’ vacancy following this season.
