Victor Wembanyama: 'I just want to hoop, work out and lift'

No. 1 overall pick Victor Wembanyama was easily the most hyped NBA Draft prospect since LeBron James.

He's no longer a prospect, though. He's a member of the San Antonio Spurs and he's already played in two NBA Summer League basketball games.

The results were mixed — nine points in game one followed by 27 in Game 2 — but after a year of intense hype followed by weeks of lead-up to the 2023 NBA Draft, "Wemby" is simply happy to be focused on basketball again.

"Like this past month, I think basketball wasn't even 50% of my schedule," Wembanyama explained to the media after Round 2, per ESPN. "I can't stand it. I know it's a special moment in my life, but I'm just glad it's over honestly. I just want to hoop, work out and lift."

The Spurs still have three games left to play in Vegas, but it remains unclear if Wembanyama will play or if San Antonio will shut him down — content with the experience he got in two NBA-ish games.

Either way, though, the 7-foot-3 teenager is willing to help his new organization in any way possible.

"I know I got to talk with Pop," Wembanyama said regarding the rest of the Summer League schedule. "I'm going to listen to what he's going to say, but I'm ready to make any sacrifice for the team and give 100%."
