Baltimore Ravens Roquan Smith Throws Major Shade At The Chicago Bears
Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

The Baltimore Ravens have one of the league’s best defenses led by linebacker Roquan Smith . The Ravens acquired him in a trade from the Chicago Bears last season. In a recent interview, Smith talked about how that trade was the best thing that could have happened for his career.

Baltimore Ravens Roquan Smith Throws Shade At The Chicago Bears

When talking with Sports Illustrated‘s Albert Breer Smith had this to say about looking back on the trade.

“Man, it’s pretty crazy thinking back to when I was initially traded. It was bittersweet for me, just knowing Chicago and rightfully so. But if I would’ve stayed there, honestly, [I] wouldn’t have been able to compete for a title anytime soon. … And when I just think about it from the perspective of having the opportunity to compete for one year in and year out with the talent we have. Man, it makes me so happy, just knowing my career is not going down the drain, in the sense of playing somewhere where I’m not truly competing for a title.”

The part that stands out is the part where he is happy his career isn’t going down the drain in Chicago. Baltimore has been in the playoff conversation for years while the Bears have been in the cellar of the NFC for a while.

Smith Loves Being A Raven

While major shade was thrown, he also seems to genuinely love being a part of the Ravens’ organization.

“Honestly, man, it means the world to me, being a Raven. And how they came and got me when I was in Chicago and just all the love they showed me throughout my time here, I just only imagine it’s gonna grow even bigger. So when I think about it from that perspective, I pride myself on playing until the whistle, playing every single play as hard as I can. But like just being here, there’s something about that makes you want to go even harder, with all the legends that came before me, like Ed [Reed], Ray [Lewis], Bart [Scott].”

There’s a lot of history that comes with being a part of this organization and Smith is here for it. The Ravens look like one of the top teams in the NFL right now and are battling for the number one overall seed in the AFC. If Lamar Jackson keeps the offense rolling, Smith should have the defense locking down their opponents.
