Browns to give preseason star first shot at playing time in Week 10 against Ravens
Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

The Cleveland Browns have made an interesting move that is going to have some fans excited.

Since they’re short-handed at wide receiver with Marquise Goodwin (concussion) and David Bell (knee) set to miss Sunday’s game against Baltimore, the Browns are bringing up a preseason fan favorite from the practice squad.

Austin Watkins Jr. caught the eyes of many in the preseason by leading the NFL in receiving during the exhibition games. Now, it looks like he could get his first chance with the Browns. Cleveland elevated CB A.J. Green as well, according to the team.

Watkins had seven catches for 139 yards in the third preseason game against the Eagles, it was the game where he really showed that he at least should stick around on the practice squad.

The 6-foot-3 target has yet to appear in an NFL game but has spent time with the practice squads of the 49ers and Buccaneers. Watkins has spent some time in both the CFL and USFL.

If Watkins can get on the field Sunday, he will have a chance to impress against the Ravens in a pivotal matchup for the Browns. Sometimes injuries allow a guy to step up and that could be the case here.

Cleveland kicks off against Baltimore at 1 p.m. on Sunday in the AFC North battle. It’ll be worth monitoring whether or not Watkins can work into the mix.
