Cleveland Browns’ Myles Garrett A Name To ‘Watch’ Over Contract
Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Could Cleveland Browns defensive lineman Myles Garrett be on the verge of landing a massive contract?

Jacksonville Jaguars edge rusher Josh Allen recently signed a whopping five-year, $150 million extension, which leads Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team to believe that Garrett could be next in line.

“Two other names to keep an eye on over here, Myles Garrett in Cleveland and then Maxx Crosby in Las Vegas. Garrett is getting $25 million per year, Crosby is at around $23.5 million per year,” Meirov said. “We know how these players react when other players top them when it comes to contracts. ‘That guy’s not better than me. I’m better than him. I should be getting paid more.’”

Considering that Garrett is coming off of a spectacular 2023 campaign in which he won the Defensive Player of the Year award, Meirov may have a point.

It should be noted that Garrett is currently under contract through 2026, so the Browns have no real need to rush an extension with him now unless he really pushes for one.

The 28-year-old signed a five-year, $125 million pact with Cleveland back in the summer of 2020, but as Allen’s deal indicates, the market is clearly much different now.

Garrett racked up 42 tackles, 14 sacks, four forced fumbles and a fumble recovery this past season.

The Texas A&M product was selected by the Browns with the No. 1 overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft.

It didn’t take long for Garrett to establish himself as one of the league’s premier defenders, as he made the Pro Bowl as soon as his sophomore season after totaling 44 tackles and 13.5 sacks.

Garrett has made five trips to the Pro Bowl overall and has earned three First-Team All-Pro selections.

We’ll see if Myles Garrett prods Cleveland to negotiate a new deal with him soon.
