Cowboys' Dak Prescott is using significant time to review interception problem

After Cowboys QB Dak Prescott threw 15 interceptions in 12 starts last season, which tied for the league lead, Dallas made him rewatch the entire tape.

In a Tuesday news conference, Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy said he, QB coach Scott Tolzien and Prescott recently spent "about four hours" reviewing interceptions and decision-making over the past three seasons.

Interceptions have been a weak point throughout his career. In seven seasons, he's thrown 10 or more four times.

Nonetheless, the 2022 spike is alarming because it was a career-high, and he threw picks at a higher rate. Therefore, Dallas must adjust its offensive philosophy and elevate its QB.

Since former OC Kellen Moore and the organization mutually parted ways, McCarthy assumed play-calling duties.

He isn't going to re-hash the offense, but the Dallas HC will make relevant tweaks intended to re-wire the passing game.

One of the main changes is having Prescott check plays at the line of scrimmage less. According to the Dallas Morning News' David Moore, Prescott reviewed 70 percent of plays before the snap last season.

McCarthy isn't taking this responsibility off Prescott's plate to slight the QB but to increase his comfortability.

"If you want your guys to play fast, give them less responsibility," McCarthy said. "It makes it easier and cleaner for the QB."

Aside from the interceptions, Prescott excelled in other facets throwing 23 TDs and helping the Cowboys score 25 points or more in nine consecutive games, a franchise record.

If Prescott fixes the turnover issue, he and Dallas passing offense could turn a corner.
