Decision on moving Chiefs-Bucs game over Hurricane Ian could come as late as Friday

Those expecting to attend the upcoming "Sunday Night Football" showdown between the 2-1 Kansas City Chiefs and 2-1 Tampa Bay Buccaneers may have to wait until late in the midweek to learn if the game will take place at Tampa Bay's Raymond James Stadium amid the threat of Hurricane Ian.

Per Rob Maaddi of the Associated Press, an NFL spokesperson said Tuesday that the league currently is "not discussing any potential sites" for relocating the game despite fears related to the hurricane. "We continue to monitor the storm and are in constant communication with the clubs and local authorities. Decision could be made as late as Friday," that spokesperson added.

It was learned on Monday that the Buccaneers will hold midweek practices at the Miami Dolphins' facility beginning on Wednesday. According to reports shared by Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the Minnesota Vikings' U.S. Bank Stadium and New Orleans Saints' Caesars Superdome are potential alternate sites for the Chiefs-Buccaneers clash.

The Vikings and Saints will face off at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London this Sunday.

Additionally, the NFL could elect to flex a different game into the "Sunday Night Football" broadcast slot and shift the Chiefs-Buccaneers matchup to Monday evening. The league recently featured a scheduled "Monday Night Football" doubleheader and has the Los Angeles Rams taking on the San Francisco 49ers this coming Monday.

The Buccaneers seemed to indicate Sunday's game may not be held in Florida when they announced on Tuesday that the induction of former head coach and current consultant Bruce Arians into the club's Ring of Honor scheduled to occur during halftime of the Chiefs contest has been postponed with Hurricane Ian looming.
