Former All-Pro wide receiver shares promising thoughts on Las Vegas Raiders signing Michael Gallup

The Las Vegas Raiders have been strategically fortifying their roster, a move I've dubbed 'pre-damage control' for lack of a better term. This proactive approach, aimed at bolstering their offensive lineup and compensating for the absence of their desired QBs, underscores their adaptability and resourcefulness, instilling confidence in the team's management.

By making life easier for them and harder for the quarterbacks to mess up, the Raiders have made strategic draft decisions. They've secured two of the best overall players in the draft, employing a 'best available' approach that promises to not just enhance, but potentially transform their performance, sparking hope and optimism among the fans.

A recent free agency move that aligns with the Raiders' strategic approach is the signing of Michael Gallup. This move, according to a former All-Pro, holds more potential than it may seem at first glance, adding depth and experience to the team's wide receiver position.

"That's a great pickup; Davante Adams is going to like him. He's exactly what the Raiders need," former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant said. "They have great leadership with AP, Maxx Crosby, and Adams. He's going to be more than a WR3."

This acquisition adds a player with a proven track record to the team and demonstrates the Raiders' commitment to strengthening their wide receiver depth, which is something that will only help their QBs.

The Raiders have one of the best one-two punches in the league, with Davante Adams and Jakobi Meyers. However, their depth is pretty unproven. According to the projected 53-man roster I wrote up , the Raiders have three proven guys in Adams, Meyers, and Tucker. Tucker has had a few good games here and there. Their depth at the position regarding guys who would likely make the roster is D.J. Turner and Kristian Wilkerson.

Adding Gallup brings in a guy who has experience as one of the best wide receivers in the league during his career. During his six-year career, Gallup has had a 1,100 receiving yard season in 2020 and an 800 receiving yards season in 2021. Since then, he has been around that 400-yard mark but has dealt with injuries and unfortunate circumstances with the Cowboys. The emergence of CeeDee Lamb, one of the best receivers in the league, also hurt his production.

The Raiders believe there is still some left in the tank for Gallup, who can be a solid fourth or third option from the WR room. Now, the two quarterbacks have a ton of offensive weapons.
