NFL insider provides hopeful update on Chiefs S Bryan Cook's injury
Dan Powers/USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin.

The Kansas City Chiefs dealt with a ton of injuries during their Week 13 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night.

None of those injuries was more concerning than second-year safety Bryan Cook's ankle injury. His ankle got caught underneath himself while he was attempting to make an open-field tackle (see the featured image). He was ultimately  carted off the field and seen in visible pain.

The outlook was looking bleak for Cook, but the team got some hopeful news shortly after the game. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported on the website formerly known as Twitter that X-rays came back negative and Cook did not break his ankle. That's a bit of a surprise given what was seen on the field.

Cook isn't out of the woods yet. As Fowler notes, he'll undergo more evaluation in Kansas City today. He could be dealing with the dreaded high ankle sprain, which is an injury that could cost him 4-5 weeks and lead to a stay on injured reserve.

If he's able to return for the playoffs, that'd be great news for Kansas City. Only three defenders have played more snaps than Cook (592) has this season. He has amassed 42 total tackles, one tackle for loss, one interception, two passes defended, and he's the only Chiefs defensive player with a touchdown this season.
