Official Alex Kemp had message for Geno Smith on intentional grounding penalty
Geno Smith Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

Official Alex Kemp had a message for Geno Smith while telling the fans about a penalty that was called in the fourth quarter of Seattle’s 37-31 overtime win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday.

The call came when the Seahawks were down 21-17 in the fourth quarter. There was an obvious miscommunication on the play, so intentional grounding was a bad call (video here).

But as Kemp was trying to communicate to the fans what the call was, Smith tried to plead his case. Kemp then said to Smith, “I’m talking to America here, excuse me.”

That made for a funny official-on-the-microphone moment. But Smith had every reason to complain as that was a terrible call.

At least the Seahawks pulled out the victory in OT, so the call didn’t prevent them from winning the game.

Smith, the reigning Comeback Player of the Year, went 32/41 for 328 yards and 2 touchdowns in the game.
