Philadelphia Eagles Looking To Make Massive DeVonta Smith Move
Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

Are the Philadelphia Eagles preparing to sign wide receiver DeVonta Smith to a massive contract extension?

The Eagles have already handed out massive deals to offensive linemen Landon Dickerson and Jordan Mailata, so they have been pretty busy locking up their players this offseason.

Philadelphia already has fellow wide out A.J. Brown secured on a long-term contract, and now, it’s looking like Smith could be next.

According to Tim McManus of ESPN, Philly is “making efforts behind the scenes” to get something done with Smith, who became eligible for an extension last offseason.

Smith currently has two years of team control left on his deal, as the Eagles can exercise his player option for 2025. However, Philadelphia is apparently trying to extend Smith before it comes to that.

The 25-year-old is coming off of a 2023 campaign in which he played 16 games and caught 81 passes for 1,066 yards and seven touchdowns.

Smith, who played his collegiate football at the University of Alabama, was selected by Philly with the 10th overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft.

He appeared in every contest during his rookie year and was impressive, snaring 64 balls for 916 yards and five scores. He followed that up by hauling in 95 receptions for 1,196 yards while reaching the end zone seven times during his sophomore season.

Not only is Smith coming off of back-to-back 1,000-yard campaigns as the Eagles’ No. 2 receiver behind Brown, but his durability has been a major plus, as he has played in all but one game thus far.

Should Philadelphia reach an agreement with Smith, it would ensure that the club retains one of the best receiver duos in Brown and DeVonta Smith for the foreseeable future.
