Robert Griffin III, former HC get in wild argument on social media

Robert Griffin III and Jay Gruden only spent two seasons together in the NFL with Washington.

After being selected second overall by Washington in the 2012 NFL Draft and earning both the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year and Pro Bowl honors that year, the former quarterback's final year in the nation's capital was in 2015.

Gruden was named the franchise's head coach in January 2014 and lasted five-plus seasons with the team.

On Thursday, RGIII called out Gruden during his "RG3 and the Ones" podcast, claiming the coach "undressed" him during a postgame news conference in "a way that a coach should never undress his starting quarterback." Griffin III also said that the next day, Gruden "burned" him in front of his teammates.

The former Heisman Trophy winner's claims set off a wild back-and-forth with Gruden that lasted for hours on Thursday night.

Griffin III was limited to nine games (seven starts) during the 2014 season due to an ankle injury and suffered a concussion during a preseason tilt in 2015.

Kirk Cousins spent three years backing up Griffin III after being selected in the fourth round of the 2012 draft but got his chance to start when the latter went down with his injury. Cousins was named the starter going into the regular season, played and started all 16 games and led the NFL in completion percentage (69.8).

The Baylor product, meanwhile, spent the year as the third-string signal-caller and was inactive the entire season.

Griffin III was released by Washington in March 2016 and played that year with the Cleveland Browns. He most recently suited up for the Baltimore Ravens from 2018-2020, playing in 14 games and making two starts.

Gruden posted one message on X, formerly known as Twitter, Thursday night, which addressed Cousins' takeover as the starter, but later deleted it.
