Steelers select massive tackle in latest mock draft

NFL.com writer Daniel Jeremiah has released his mock draft 2.0 and the former NFL scout has the Steelers adding a big blocker for QB Kenny Pickett.

With the No. 17 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Jeremiah has Pittsburgh selecting Tennessee offensive tackle Darnell Wright. "Wright’s a plug-and-play right tackle for an offensive line that needs to be overhauled to protect last year's first-round pick, Kenny Pickett," he writes.

A lot can change between now and the end of April, but Wright seems like a reach as of now. He is currently ranked as the No. 71 overall prospect on Pro Football Focus' big board.

However, the 21-year-old does stand out with his massive frame, standing at 6-foot-6, 335 pounds. And he certainly got the attention of head coach Mike Tomlin at the Senior Bowl a few weeks ago where the two began to build a relationship.

"He's been funny. He's been over there joking around," Wright said. "We've been talking a couple of times each day. He likes rolling with the big dogs."

ESPN writer Jeremy Fowler reiterated Pittsburgh's interest in Wright as well.

"The Pittsburgh Steelers appeared to be keeping close tabs on offensive linemen at the Senior Bowl," Fowler said. "One name to watch is Tennessee offensive tackle Darnell Wright, who Pittsburgh could see as more of a guard."

It will depend on how the first round plays out on night one, but it feels like someone better would be available at No. 17. Maybe Wright would be a better selection with one of the Steelers' other two picks in the top 50: No. 32 or No. 49.
