The Eagles were quiet at the trade deadline and that’s perfectly fine
Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

It may be disappointing to see the lack of moves made by the Philadelphia Eagles at the deadline but the team is still geared for a Super Bowl. The unfortunate part of it all is that the 49ers did load up to compete with the Eagles.

Howie and the Eagles hold firm at the trade deadline

Let’s not forget that they did trade for an All-Pro Safety last week in Kevin Byard. While the secondary wasn’t outstanding during his debut, the Eagles still have enough time to get it all together. With veterans like Byard, Bradberry, and Slay in the group, we should see the secondary stop the bleeding sooner rather than later.

It may scare fans to see that the Eagles chose to stand pat at the deadline and declare it a win with only one addition made. The reason is because of the gauntlet of teams that they will face soon between the Cowboys, Chiefs, Bills, and 49ers. A rebuttal to that thought would be that this isn’t the 2021 or 2022 Eagles unit. This team is battle-tested and has been dragged through the mud for it.

While they may not be winning in a sexy fashion like the 49ers once were, the Eagles are winning nonetheless. They’re also winning without playing their best ball. The offense is making strides in the right direction but the defense had a bit of a setback as they couldn’t stop the quick passes of the Washington Commanders. It’s all about adjustments though.

You’ve seen Sean Desai adjust with a very unhealthy unit against the Rams and you also witnessed his wizardry against the Dolphins. The Commanders did something new that Desai will be prepared for as time goes on and it will be that much easier for him with Byard in his corner.

After not making any moves today, I would strongly expect the Eagles to attack the waivers. Teams will release veterans who want a chance to play for a run and Philadelphia is a very attractive place right now. Expect that to be the next move that the Eagles make to help strengthen the depth of the offense and defense.
