The Lions lost the only compensatory pick they were slated to have in 2025 NFL Draft
Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Lions did not have a compensatory pick in the 2024 NFL draft. They didn't have one in the 2023 NFL Draft either. In fact, they haven't had a compensatory pick since the 2022 NFL draft when they had three. But will they have any after the Lions lost some priority free agents? The answer right now is no, but they almost did have one.

How does the almost work? The Lions were to have a fourth-round compensatory pick for the loss of Jonah Jackson to the Rams, but they canceled that pick out with their signing of of Amik Robertson who was a 6th-round compensatory free agent.

At this point, it's safe to assume that the Lions won't get any compensatory picks in next years draft. That is unless Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn takes a head coaching job and assistant GM Ray Agnew takes a GM job.

If both of those things happen. The league would award the Lions with three compensatory third-round picks due to resolution JC-2A. A rule that is designed to help diversity in the coaching and front office ranks. In Agnew's case, the Lions would get one in 2025 and one in 2026. For example, the Rams received two compensatory picks when the Lions hired Brad Holmes.

Both candidates have been in the hiring cycles as of late and both are overwhelmingly deserving of those positions. We'll see what happens next offseason.
