Insiders have recently offered different takes on whether or not they believe San Francisco 49ers dual-threat offensive weapon and All-Pro selection Deebo Samuel could skip the start of training camp next week following his offseason trade request.
Samuel has remained in the final year of his rookie contract since that initial request but attended the club's mandatory minicamp last month and later teased through social media he could remain with the organization for at least one more season. There's now a big hint the 26-year-old and the 49ers could once again soon be on the same page regarding his future.
As Charean Williams noted for Pro Football Talk, Samuel’s trainer shared a video on social media in which he declared that the offensive talent is "about to get paid." The Athletic's David Lombardi tweeted this is "yet another indication that Samuel’s contractual status with the 49ers is headed in a very positive direction" with veterans set to report to camp next Tuesday:

Samuel ended the 2021 regular season as San Francisco's undisputed offensive most valuable player who recorded 1,405 receiving yards, 365 rushing yards and 14 total offensive touchdowns with an additional passing score. Per Williams, Samuel is set to have a base salary of just $3.986 million for 2022, but he may be on the cusp of obtaining the types of financial guarantees he's earned via his on-field performances.
