Blake Comeau signs one-year deal to stay with Stars

Forward Blake Comeau will not be hitting unrestricted free agency, after all.

Per the official NHL website, the 35-year-old has signed a one-year contract worth $1 million to remain with the Dallas Stars for at least one more season.

"We're excited to be able to bring Blake back for another season," Dallas general manager Jim Nill explained for the announcement of the agreement. "Blake's approach to the game, coupled with his determination and physical presence on the ice, has been a tremendous asset for us over the past three seasons. His vast experience has allowed him to become a strong leader in the dressing room and we're thrilled he'll be returning next season."

Comeau tallied four goals and 10 assists across 51 regular-season games with the Stars in 2020-21. His 106 hits on the campaign were the most recorded by any Dallas forward.

Dallas missed the playoffs and finished fifth in the NHL Central standings, but Comeau nevertheless said he believes the Stars "have a really good chance to win a Stanley Cup." He added: "It's a great hockey city, we have a great fan base and I'm excited that I was wanted back for another year. So, the decision wasn't hard when I sat back and talked to my wife and we figured out what would be best for us."

For his career, Comeau has 140 goals and 193 assists in 903 regular-season contests.
