Logan Cooley scores overtime winner, Coyotes defeat Canucks 4-3
Bob Frid-USA TODAY Sports

Logan Cooley scored the game-winner and Dylan Guenther recorded a four-point night on his 21st birthday as the Arizona Coyotes beat the Vancouver Canucks 4-3 in overtime on Wednesday.

Cooley, Guenther, Josh Brown and Vladislav Kolyachonok all scored for the Coyotes (34-40-5). Guenther had three assists while Connor Ingram made 23 saves.

Elias Pettersson, J.T Miller and Conor Garland had the goals for the Canucks (48-22-9). Arturs Silovs stopped 14 shots in the loss.

Cooley Coming Up Clutch

Despite rumors swirling around their arena situation, the Coyotes blocked out the noise and were resilient.

After heading to their locker room scoreless, the Coyotes came out for the middle frame with a sense of urgency on the attack.

Right off of a face-off win by Logan Cooley, Guenther fired a wrist shot on net. After Silovs made the initial save, Brown pounced on the rebound and scored as the Coyotes led 1-0.

Answering similarly, immediately after a draw in the Canucks’ offensive, Tyler Myers sent a shot from the point and Ingram stopped it. With the puck sitting in front of the ‘Yotes’ goal crease, Miller tapped it in for a 1-1 tie with 1:22 left in the second.

Just 56 seconds later, Kolyachonok shot from the blue line and found just enough space to score through multiple bodies in the slot, giving Arizona a 2-1 lead.

Stripping Quinn Hughes of the puck in the corner, Cooley spun and found Guenther open for a one-timer, making it 3-1 ‘Yotes at 1:55 of the third period.

After the midway point of the period, Vancouver had the momentum late.

From a sharp angle, former Coyote Garland sniped over Ingram’s glove, drawing the Canucks within one, 3-2.

Then on the power play, Petterson ripped his 34th goal of the season, tying the game 3-3 with 3:42 remaining in regulation.

Into overtime, Filip Hronek received a penalty shot after being hooked from behind by Nick Schmaltz. On the chance, Hronek was stonewalled by Ingram for the game to carry on.

With 1:10 left in the extra frame, Guenther found Cooley for a one-timer and scored, capping off a 4-3 win for Arizona.
