NHL bets: Three goal scorer targets for Wednesday night

Wednesday's NHL slate doesn't offer us many options, so we keep it relatively simple with a few goal scorer props tonight on the ice.

.5u: Auston Matthews & Alex Ovechkin goals (+395 ESPN)

Maple Leafs vs. Capitals, 7:30 p.m. ET, TNT

I'm going some chalk in this Toronto-Washington game in a matchup that I could see pushing 6+ goals. The draw on the Leafs scoring is certainly built on them averaging 4.1 goals per game on the road over the past month.

The Capitals (and Charlie Lindgren) are playing some great hockey right now, but they are returning home after a five-game road trip, a situation that does tend to lead to some let-down games.

Matthews is logging plenty of quality looks as he always does, and he hasn't scored in two straight games. He hasn't gone three straight without a goal since November. He's also netted a goal in three straight meetings with the Caps.

On the Washington end, Ovechkin catches the eye. Toronto is a solid target for shots from the wing, and I'm also seeing a power-play edge for Washington tonight. Ovi is the Caps PP engine by a large margin, and he's finding his offensive touch again with three goals in his last two.

Earlier this year against Toronto, Ovechkin logged a casual 14 SOG on 17 attempts, scoring a goal.

.5u: Matt Duchene goal (+240 ESPN)

Coyotes vs. Stars, 8 p.m. ET, BSSW, SCRIPPS

Some exciting news out of Dallas this morning, as Tyler Seguin is set to rejoin the team and Dallas' second line alongside Matt Duchene and Mason Marchment.

The return of Seguin should be particularly welcome for Matt Duchene, who has topped the team in high-danger chances on 5v5 play at home over their last five games but has not scored in nine games.

In an inviting matchup with Arizona, this seems like the right time to back Duchene (and this second line) to remind everyone how great they were earlier this season.

Duchene has a goal in four straight home games with Seguin in the lineup and six of the past seven in Dallas. He's also scored in three of the last five games against the Coyotes. Here's to Seguin setting up Duchene tonight, like riding a bike.
