Petr Mrazek Makes 37 Saves in First Blackhawks Shutout
Jamie Sabau-USA TODAY Sports

Petr Mrazek has endured challenges over the last few years due to injury issues and backstopping a rebuilding Chicago Blackhawks team. But on Thursday, the veteran netminder was perfect as he made 37 saves in a 1-0 win over the Anaheim Ducks to record his first shutout in a Blackhawks uniform.

Chicago controlled play early with a 14-10 shot advantage through 20 minutes of play. Philipp Kurashev provided the game's only goal on a power play in the second period, but it then turned into a siege by the Ducks.

Mrazek made 18 saves in the middle frame and nine more in the third period. He was especially clutch down the stretch as the Blackhawks recorded just one shot in the final 20 minutes while Anaheim pushed for an equalizer.

Regardless, Mrazek turned away everything the Ducks threw his way en route to his 25th career shutout. It marked his first clean sheet since April 4, 2021, back when he donned a Carolina Hurricanes uniform.

"Yeah, it's been a long time,” Mrazek said of his performance. “It feels good."

Mrazek's perfect night between the pipes improved his record to 6-8-0 on the season and helped Chicago snap a four-game losing streak that featured mostly lifeless hockey. It also marked the first shutout by a Blackhawks goalie this season.

Feels good, indeed.
