Report: Hurricanes goaltender Frederik Andersen's MRI comes back negative

Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Frederik Andersen got good news when the MRI on his lower body injury came back negative, according to TSN's Pierre LeBrun.

Andersen, 32, left in the final minutes of the third period of a 7-4 loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday. While the Hurricanes haven't provided information about the specifics of the injury, coach Rod Brind'Amour told reporters Monday that Andersen will be re-evaluated by the team in a week.

The Hurricanes are tied with the New York Rangers for first in the Metropolitan Division and have already clinched a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Andersen has been the team's primary starter during the 2021-22 season with a 35-14-3 record in his 52 games played. His .922 save percentage is sixth best in the NHL this season among starters.

With Andersen currently out of action, the Hurricanes recalled Pyotr Kochetkov of the AHL's Chicago Wolves and will likely lean on Antti Raanta to fill in as the primary starter. Raanta has a 12-5-4 record this season in goal.
