Roma are working on the details of a new contract for coach Daniele De Rossi after his shining start in the dugout.

The 40-year-old Italian took over from Jose Mourinho back in January and has far exceeded expectations in the capital, putting the Giallorossi in a strong spot in the fight for a Champions League spot with Bologna, both of whom now look likely to qualify.

De Rossi again proved his chops at Roma in their Europa League quarter-final tie with Milan, where he guided his side to a 3-1 aggregate win, likely condemning his Rossoneri counterpart Stefano Pioli. On Thursday, the Giallorossi’s owners the Friedkins publicly backed their coach.

De Rossi contract

Corriere della Sera via TMW details how Roma are preparing a multi-year contract for De Rossi, expected to be either a three-year deal or two years with an option for a third. His salary will have a fixed starting point with a number of add-ons lined to sporting results.

The former midfielder will also play a key role in various technical choices including the training camp and pre-season preparations, as well as input in the transfer market.
