Romelu Lukaku is very unlikely to remain at Roma, so Chelsea are open to selling for the same price they gave to the Giallorossi, specifically €40m.

The striker joined the Giallorossi on loan in the final days of the summer transfer session with an option to buy at the end of the season for his release clause.

However, despite impressing at the Stadio Olimpico, Roma simply cannot afford to make that kind of an investment for a player over 30.

Lukaku options limited

Chelsea do not want Lukaku back, nor does he particularly want to return to Stamford Bridge, but the club needs to raise €40m from his sale or risk making a loss on the original €113m purchase from Inter.

The Belgian could well remain in Serie A, because Napoli have shown interest in possibly using him as part of an exchange deal bringing Victor Osimhen to Chelsea.

Other Italian teams will face a big price-tag for an ageing centre-forward, though, as Chelsea won’t drop below that £38m price-tag.
