'She represents us very well,' After leaving Ons Jabeur in tears, Beatriz Haddad Maia only has heartwarming words for the Tunisian off the court

Brazilian tennis player Beatriz Haddad Maia has just registered a sensational victory against Ons Jabeur in the quarterfinal of the 2024 Abu Dhabi Open. She has had a great campaign in the tournament so far and might indeed end up winning the trophy. She has defeated Wand Xiyu, Magda Linette, and Ons Jabeur in the tournament so far and faces Daria Kasatkina in the semifinal.

After her match, the Brazilian was full of praise for the Tunisian. She said that they have played a number of great matches against each other, both at a professional level and in ITFs. Maia also said that Ons is a great representative of women’s tennis across the globe.

I have really good memories from our last match. I had a few matches against her, we played before like 4 times in ITFs. Ons, as everybody knows, is a very nice person, a very important player for women’s tennis. She represents us very well. I respect her a lot because of that...   Beatriz Haddad Maia on Ons Jabeur during on-court interview

With this, the two players now have an equal record in head-to-head matches. They have played a total of four matches against each other and won two matches each. Their last match took place in the 2023 French Open quarterfinals. It was a three-set thriller that was ultimately won by Beatriz Haddad Maia as well. She won the match 3-6, 7-6, 6-1, pulling off an exceptional clutch performance in the third set.

Ons Jabeur’s series of disappointing losses in the recent past

The Tunisian is currently going through a rough patch. Her loss against Marketa Vondrousova in the final of the 2023 Wimbledon has resulted in a significant dent in her morale, as her performances have seen a steep fall from there. Ons Jabeur’s results in 2024, in particular, have been horrible so far.

She lost to 16-year-old Mirra Andreeva 6-0, 6-2 in the second round of the Australian Open. She won her first match of the Abu Dhabi Open against Emma Raducanu but yet again lost to Beatriz Maia Haddad in the second round, and that too in straight sets. She will now head on to the Qatar Open.

Jabeur was seen crying during the second set of her match against Beatriz Haddad Maia, which shows that she is mentally exhausted after her series of unexpected defeats. The Tunisian needs to make a comeback, and she needs to make it quick, ideally ahead of the Indian Wells and Miami Open in March.
